I've spent the last month or so lovingly preparing a deep, rich bed for the asparagus crowns I ordered in February. They arrived on Monday, and since then it hasn't stopped raining and the bed now resembles a swamp. There were even a couple of ducks quacking about on it yesterday.

Yes, it says to put them in a container and cover the roots with damp compost - I've stuck them in a deep polystyrene fish box in the polytunnel for now - but it'll take a couple of weeks for that bed to dry out sufficiently (presuming we have no more rain!), and I'm going on holiday shortly after that.He-Pep!
