Rain, rain, rain.

I've spent the last month or so lovingly preparing a deep, rich bed for the asparagus crowns I ordered in February. They arrived on Monday, and since then it hasn't stopped raining and the bed now resembles a swamp. There were even a couple of ducks quacking about on it yesterday.

Oh, that's really bad luck. Did they come with instructions on what to do if you can't plant them out immediately?

Yes, it says to put them in a container and cover the roots with damp compost - I've stuck them in a deep polystyrene fish box in the polytunnel for now - but it'll take a couple of weeks for that bed to dry out sufficiently (presuming we have no more rain!), and I'm going on holiday shortly after that.
