Marestail is a harmless thug but very annoying, I've said on here before that I was given good advice from an old boy when I started 3 years ago.
He said leave it to grow to about 6 inches then pull it up with about as much root as possible which will weaken the plant. Then you can bruise any plant that reappears using the back of a trowel to damage the leaf cells which gets round the waxy surface defence it has. Then use neat concentrated roundup on the plant as and when it appears, wearing a rubber glove wet it with roundup and stroke the damaged leaves. watch it die and remove the dead frond out the ground. It hates limed areas or soil that's very fertile that's had lots of muck put in it.
Doing those sort of things will make it move on to your neighbours plot where its got more chance of surviving.
