Welcome to the madhouse, you could always start a blog and record your progress, it's useful to look back on and review just how much you have done and then yearly to review what went well and read the notes and reminders you leave yourself.

And apart from that we all like seeing photographs of what others are doing.

With me it's the other way around. We met on site on Monday and looked at a few plots. There was a plot that had been subdivided into four uneven sized bits, of which 2 were free. We agreed on one and they were going to check whether or not I could also have the very small bit next to mine. With 7 other plots free and unclaimed, it looked probable. I was even given a key to the gate.

Problem is I haven't heard anything since. No letter, no rules etc. I want to get started with planning and a shed, greenhouse etc but don't know what the rules are. I want to get rhubarb in the small plot but don't know whether or not I've got it. Seeing as how they rang me on Monday and wanted an answer from me on the same day, it is all a bit frustrating.

Would you not be better putting the water trough between the shed & greenhouse to catch rainwater.

The water trough is the one installed by the council - plumbed into the main. I'll have some interconnected water butts between the shed and greenhouse. We're not allowed to use hoses on our allotment so I'll collect as much as I can. I'll bock the butts up a bit and use gravity to feed it into the greenhouse controlled by my battery timer valve.

                        It's an allotment - they're not having a baby.

That and the fact it was the closest, of those available, to the car park were fairly influential factors in choosing it.
