Snadger beat me to it! Salt and vinegar.

If you have perenial tap rooted weeds somewhere you can't dig - such as the lawn or the middle of the carrots, put some salt on it - poisons the weed!

Vinegar is good to deter ants! Sprinkle it over the ants nest, keep repeating - the ants will move! (the garden smells a bit funny though!)
