My allotment runs north ish to south ish. Should I put a poly tunnel across the 4m width or to run lengthways down one side?

If you want to grow crops all year round, it’s best to line up the ridge of the structure to run east-west, as this will maximise light during the winter. It will also help it to heat up more quickly after cold nights. If you intend to grow summer crops only, then aligning the ridge north-south is preferable as it gives an equal amount of sun to each side and helps to reduce overheating on the hottest days.

The prevailing wind direction can have a lot to do with siting. We have a prevalent West wind so need to site polytunnels so the wind blows over the curve rather than the flat end, especially the door end!My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

There are many factors to consider as explained above but you also have to look at your plot and see what will work. If they're not shaded then the direction isn't much effected re light etc but if it's tucked in a corner then it really does matter
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
