Back, now with added allotment!

Hi, not been around for a while for various reasons, but figured I'd start posting again now that I've got a real allotment! It was an unexpected one, but our village allotment just got a revamp with rabbit proof fencing going in shortly and plans for water next year, so I went on the list and here I am! Picked a small one though.



I have yet to finish pulling out all the old sticks and roots, plus bits of old rusty fence clips and so on as it used to be junk everywhere and has now been cleared (mostly) and rotavated with a tractor I think.

It's going to have to be no dig though too, due to health issues, so I've probably got my work cut out!

So far I'm germinating chard, corn, squashes, tomatoes, tomatillos, and some random greens, will be putting in onions, potatoes, peas and carrots incase the rabbits aren't still getting in (they will) and around 20 pound shop fruit canes because I don't know how to dig up my own raspberries.

Welcome back, nice looking plot. Are you allowed a shed, greenhouse, water butts, compost bins etc?......nice to have a blank canvas to start your planning.......looks like raised beds may be the way to go for you.

As far as putting things on it we're allowed all of those; though I'm on the lookout for a small half size shed I'm not aiming for a greenhouse, partly due to the lack of water up there at the moment!

I'd love raised beds but currently hoping to mark them out with bark and membrane for paths until I can afford to put that sort of stuff in.

I'm just really chuffed to have one!

They've been allotments for around 100 years if I recall correctly, so the soil should be great! I think I'll look for clearance compost bins at the end of Summer and pile up anything I collect in the meantime!

If you can pick up a few pallets you can cobble together a compost bin or keep an eye on Freecycle and the other free sites. Its amazing how much useful rubbish people give away.
