My swift spuds have been taken apart by the slimy battalion - haulms have been destroyed and from 20 plants I've got half a handful of spuds. An old boy on the plot has now told me he doesn't grow them after seeing similar - I've got 2 other varieties of first earlies that are in full bloom now - ain't nature a funny bugger? You'd have thought there wasn't much difference between foliage of one type of spud to another - but seems there must be.

Some potato suppliers do suggest varieties that are less likely to be eaten by the slimies, might be worth only growing those.

I've tried a few different varieties of spud, they definitely vary a lot for slug damage. I've found that Charlotte and Desiree are left pretty much alone, while Cara, Arran Pilot and Lady Chrystl get riddled with holes.
YMMV, as our American friends say.
