  • Seed Tape

    Has anyone tried this?

Decided to give it ago with carrots and Parsnips and both seem to have failed. Maybe I did something wrong, but very disappointed with the result.

Is it now too late to grow parsnips this year?

Possibly. My parsnip seed tape didnt do anything either (actually I fib, ive got one seedling from a 180cm length). You may still be able to get plugs in the garden centres. From what I understand, parsnip seed needs to be fresh every year.

Carrots you may still be lucky, especially for baby carrots. You can make your own seed tape using newspaper or thin ply loo roll and cornflour paste. Personally I would probably sow direct now, in fact I sowed a bucket of purple haze carrots two weeks ago.

I used the Lidl flower seed tapes around the edge of the plot and various bed. There are no flowers yet but lots of foliage.

I've used carrot tape. Worked a treat. Parsnips are difficult to get to germinate, depending on the time of year and conditions. It could have been that rather than the tape that was to blame.

For assorted reasons, I'm very behind this year. I'm going to be trying parsnips in paper pots this week. Small ones are better than none.
