New allotment!

Afternoon all.

Well I've had a letter from Plymouth City Council confirming that I'd been allocated a full plot 2 years ago and that as I'd done nothing they wanted to take me to court...

One phone call later and much confusion they offered me the plot on the spot with no admin fees! Perhaps it helps I work for the council myself. My first year is water only £4.65!

All I know is this plot is on the side of a hill overlooking the River Plym and is South facing.

This has come at the best time for me as I'm off sick with stress ironically work related. Having a new focus is brilliant.

I'll try and get to the site tomorrow for some pics. I'm a total novice at this but hopefully you'll help me out as I start and learn!

Phil well done mate, I got mine at a time when I needed a lot of Allotment therapy and it really works, take it slow and most of all enjoy it. I found recording my progress to be really beneficial in many ways.

That is great news, and south facing so you should get plenty of sunlight!

Take your time and enjoy developing your plot bit by bit- and make sure you take plenty of photos along the way, so you can see the progress you have made.

A plot on the south facing side of the valley, nice. Of course it's all downhill from now on - unless your starting at the bottom of the plot then it's an uphill struggle

What state is the plot in? Take a bit of time to wander round and poke thing to see if there's anything useful. Do you have an idea about what you want to do with the plot (shed, beds, jacuzzi)?

We got our plot, after a long wait, a few months after my mum, who was a keen gardener/amateur botanist, passed away. Having something that was hard work, very focused, but in an environment she had loved, doing something she reveled in, was hugely therapeutic for me. I hope your gardening has similar benefits!

Hi all.

Just been up to see. Crickey it's a mess. Overgrown undefined and has carpet.

But what a view! Spoke to a chap there was took his on 3 years ago in the same state and took him 2 years to get it up to standard. Plus I have my first free crop. Blackberries by the thousand!

Need to get back in touch with council to define the area as it appears the guy below has taken a section of my land (me a landowner) and he's not the nicest of people by all accounts.

But it's got massive potential!

As I said I think the bottom plot has taken a bed of mine and the blackberries have taken the top 5 metres but it's not insomonutable.

Think I'd spend all my time looking at the view - maybe that's why its been carpetted

I'm in Brockley Road. Between Efford to the North but technically it's in Laura where I live. I live right down the bottom of the hill by main railway line.
