Hello all, I'm starting on my allotment tomorrow and I have little to no knowledge of gardening if I'm honest.
But I've got a serious quench for learning and can't wait to get stuck in. I'm just looking for some simple advice just to get me started with. What's the most important things I should know before starting etc.

    Thanks in advance

    Welcome to the vine joe
We could do with a little more information so we can help you on your way onto the slippery slope of gardening addiction ( and because we are really nosey! )

    Where abouts are you?
Has you new plot been looked after or is it a big pile of weeds?
What sort of thing do you want to grow? Flowers, veg, fruit, all of it?

The very first thing you need to do is take lots of pictures so we can see it. ( told you we were nosey)

      Hi Joe and welcome.
What condition is the allotment - overgrown, weedy or ready to plant? Are there any trees, fruit bushes, sheds, compost bins to work with?
Photos help us to get a better idea.
You also need to decide what you would like to eat, then we'll try to help you to grow it.
Next year, you'll be eating your own grown food - how good is that?

I will just say 'Hi and welcome to the vine ' I am not very good at keeping things simple.

How much time do you plan to go to your allotment? (helps peeps to give time saving tips if needed)
Are you a fair weather gardener?

Oh and don't be scared to ask anything even if you think it seems silly. They are a good bunch on here

It's a bit of a mess if I'm honest but I'm on my way there for 9 o'clock so will take lots of pics. I'm looking to grow vegetables mostly. And some fruits. Bare with me and I'll get some pics over to you. Thanks

Hello and thanks in advance. I'm looking to be quite keen and do a fair bit up there as it needs a lot of work before any sort of planting starts. I'll get some pics over to you after 9

Why is it so badly set up this site? Make it so hard to do something simple like uploading pics? Thanks for all your help but I have found a page on Facebook that's a lot easier to naviagate. Do you recommend a certain group on Facebook?

You don't really expect us to recommend a FB group do you?

I've been on this site years. Whilst I really like it I still don't get how to upload pics. Which I often really want to do. If any one wants to tell me PLEASE do in non techy language. I'm on an iPad.
I admit it was a bit cheeky asking for a FBook website ( I'm not a face book fan) but Joe probably didn't mean to offend. He did thank you all individually I noticed before he scuttled to to FB.

Hi Bobbin, can you try uploading a pic, and tell us where it goes wrong for you?
