Brassica/Greens?

Hi all!

I am today the proud owner of a full allotment! I went and picked it this morning. So after years of growing spuds, cukes, salads, courgettes in pots, carrots, onions and beetroots in the corner of my garden. I now get to really play or work hard should I say!

I shall be after lots of advice and my first question being being...

I assume this is some form of brassica/greens. Can someone ID this please? There is quite a bit on my new patch and I want to eat it if I can! How long will it last for in the ground?

Congrats on your new plot! Hard to say what that is, but it's definitely a brassica. My bet would be some kind of kale, it looks too pale to be purple sprouting broccoli. It looks very healthy and robust, it'll stand all winter and run to seed around March/April (unless it's perennial kale). Eat some and see if you like it!

Looks like a beautiful kale plant to me. Could keep going all winter. Remove individual leaves from the bottom rather than the top or the whole head.

I'd go with that. Try some of the larger leaves as well as some of the smaller, younger leaves. You may notice a different flavour between the two.
