Thanks for the welcomes. I don't smell, honest.

Jack - I am on the one at Treboeth (already run by association). I hear that Sketty already went onto lease, so, they will know how it works in practice.

Have you heard anything from your assoc yet? Ours are arranging a meet for early in the new year. Timing isn't great as April is very near!

Yep, basically the council are wiping their hands clean of all allotments in the Swansea area.
The land will be handed over to each site for a period of 25 years with each member having to sign a tennancy agreement.
We will take over the water bill which is currently £1500 0ver the 16 sites and site maintanance will be taken over by site members.

The council want to make headway regarding the leases by april 2018 , so thats Swansea sorted, any more to follow ?, this is by the way ( as you all probably knew) down to the council wanting to save 26 million

          Thanks Jack.

Crikey. So, we effectively only have a couple of months to get it sorted.

The water bill for the 16 sites is £1500 in total? Our members already do the maintenance from what I understand (i've only had my plot since april this year). So I guess aside from the paperwork there will not be a massive difference.

Do you know how much work is involved in making the switch? Have they provided any 'template' agreements or, does each site have to draft everything themselves?

Don't the National Allotment Federation, have some guidance?

this might be of interest (disclaimer, I haven't read them, I am a member of the NBAS, but not an active committee-member, so check they are of recent date etc)
