Fire, beans and potatoes

After clearing a large section of my allotment I was planning to have a bonfire on the ground dig in the ash. Is this a good idea if I'm planting potatoes, beans and peas on the area?

Great for beans and peas but I wouldn't grow potatoes where you've got any ash, as there's a greater risk of scab.

No weed membrane. The plot was pretty neglected and used as a dumping ground. Bits of broken pallet, broom handles that sort of thing, all wood.

Worth checking there’s no carpet hidden underneath, before you light a fire.
Not only will it release unknown chemicals in the smoke, but the charred remains are even harder to dig out than the original carpet.....

Assuming you're not burning any noxious substances, other things that will like the ash are onions or what I call 'fruiting' plants (tomatoes, courgettes, etc.).
