  • How to stop the inside of my boots/trainers/footwear from getting muddy?

I know this is probably impossible, but is there a way to stop getting muddy socks and feet after visiting the allotment? or veg plot?
I mean I don't mind, it's just that I have a lot of muddy socks, and now that the weather is warming up I hate wearing wellies, unless it's rained, and even they are filled with mudLight ankle boots maybe?

Depends how deep the mud is, I guess, but I used to quite like wearing those rubber slip-on shoes. If you look up Dunlop waterproof gardening shoes, you'll see the kind of thing I mean, but loads of people make them.

I was thinking of Nicky Tams - but that is to stop mud on your trousers.

Gaiters is what you want. Not water proof version, just to stop soil filling your shoes.

Even a cut off legging with a strap under you shoe and a cycling / Velcro strap/ Nicky Tam to stop them falling down.

not walking in mud, mothhawk, where is the fun in that, I guess I should put in some paths between my beds then

il have a look at the dunlops to see what they look like, it can get pretty muddy.
the gaiters seem good, it's either that or putting in some paths to walk around beds, but I like my big beds as it's less than a half plot I think, so want as much grow space as possible. I think less paths means more growing space.

            Plastic bags on your feet?
I do that with a pair of leaky wellies.

but plastic bags are expensive, they're 5p
il have to experiment over the next few visit is, I think il just have to accept muddy feet, and maybe put on plastic bags on my feet when I get home, so I can get to the bathroom to wash my feet without muddying the carpet

I wear those cheapo rubber clogs from Ald/L1dl and dark socks. The shoes are left outside on the fence to be washed by the rain, or thrown in a bucket of water and the socks have kinder treatment in the washing machine.

I wear Crocs then I rinse my feet and shoes at the same time, I don't do digging (well apart from digging up parsnips and JA's) so its fine for me to garden in them.

Is there a route into your house which doesn’t involve carpet?
We go in via garage. Remove shoes and muddy clothes in garage, muddy clothes straight into washing machine, wash feet in bucket of water if needs be (‘outside’ tap is in garage-v handy!), then straight upstairs to shower

                          I thought I was a mucky gardener but ^^^^^
I just kick off my garden shoes and select a rain washed pair from the fence for the house.

I do like to get stuck in sometimes.... but normally only hands and knees get muddy!
That said, if I’m building dry stone walls in rain, or digging v deep holes such as for gateposts, then muddy from chest down is to be expected

I have to go via carpet to get in, I normally leave my shoes and socks outside before I come in,but my feet are filthy, il try the crock/lidl or wilko crock version, and wash my feet before I get in somehow, or the carpet will be changing colour soon
