  • Allotments in Warrington?

    Hiya,

Im having real problems getting an allotment in Warrington. I was told ive got to wait at least 2 years and ive also tried the parish councils etc.

So ive tried continously pestering the council and offering to take a half plot...with no sucess

Does anyone know of any private land or allotments nearby?

Hi Muze - sorry I can't help you with Warrington allotments (although I bet that someone on here can), just wanted to say welcome to the Vine!

        Welcome Muse!

Is it worth writing a letter to your local paper asking if there's anyone out there who would be willing to let you share their plot or use their land in exchange for some free veg?
We waited 18 months for our 1/2 lottie and phoned the council about once a month for a nag! It's very frustrating. In the meantime we grew what we could in the flower beds, in pots, widow boxes etc.
        good luck to you

There is a real shortage of allotments in Warrington, last thing I heard the lists varied from 30 odd down to 2, however the one with 2 only consisted of 2 allotments so was still a 100% list! Which ones are you on the waiting list for?

Personally I've found the council less than helpful and getting responses from them isn't easy (they don't exactly work long days so phoning isn't simple!). I've had a better response from the parish councils but still no actual lottie!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

            Hiya Alison

I think im on the waiting list for all of them now and also on the look out for renting a plot of land if necessary.

You're right about the council's working hours, wish we could all get paid their salarys for working so few hours lol

Although i did get hold of the main guy in charge who told me that the waiting list is 2 years and they only tend to re check and offer out plots in January when the rents are due.

In theory they are supposed to do something but, like everything with the council, it never seems that simply. Perhaps we need to get an online petition set up or something?!?

Just checked t'intenet and found the following "Each allotment authority decides for itself how much of its resources to devote to allotments. However, if an authority believes there is a demand, it has a statutory duty to provide a sufficient quantity of plots and to let them to people living in its area. If local people feel there is a need for allotments which is not being met, they can get together a group of any six residents who are registered on the electoral roll and put their case to the local authority.". However I'm guessing that this may not be a quick process!

I think The biggest problem is finding out who wonts one and where they are and getting together. unless you can get a hold of the list

There's quite a few more than that if you look on the council web site, apparently 10 in total. See http://www.warrington.gov.uk/Images/...tcm31-1399.pdf for further details.

I would be quite happy to join up and lobby the council for more sites...its just a case of finding out who else is on that list

                              Hi,
I have an allotment on the Kingsway North allotment site. Had my plot for for 14 months and had a 18 month wait.
Some plot holders are giving up their plot or so I heard. The lease runs from January to January. So after January you might hear something?? Fingers crossed for you. Keep phoning the council!

                              Good luck.
