They are £60 for half a plot and £100/yr for a full allotment. Think they are about 20m x 10m. Apparently the treeluswell roundabout allotments on the Truro road about the same price. Although the National Trust only charge £50/yr.

I've got the farmers tel number if you want it. He said anyone can call him for the info.

      Allotments in South East Cornwall

      Hi Guys

Just seen your board. We're trying to set up about 50 plots in the South East of Cornwall - near Liskeard. As these are a private venture but in association with Nsalg, we will be able to offer to anyone in the surrounding local community because we're not restricted to the parish. I'm collecting names for our waiting list to add as sway towards planning permission for the carpark and to iron out any access issues. If anyone would be interested, please email me on blackadonfarm@hotmail.co.uk.

      Many Thanks

      Merryn Gillbard

There are some allotments in Helston - well, near helston:at Burras: but at a price (£200 a year ....). I live in Penzance and I have been renting one of these since |March (it is a new site) out of sheer desperation to get growing. To be honest tohough I simply cannnot keep it up, the rental and then the added cost of travelling - not to mention the wasted time getting to & from. Thing is there are no sites in Penzance - or there are, just a few through the council, but the waiting list is 2-5 years.

I am looking for a couple of allotments around Constantine. Who should I be talking to to get a group of us together to urge the parish to provide us with them.

contact the parish council first and ask them if they have had any residents looking for allotments. Then put some notices up in local shops. P.O etc see if there are any others who would like allotments. If you get 6 locals behind you then go back to the council with the request from you all.

Nothings happened in Helston yet though so not sure if it'll work for you

In Camelford, a couple of people got together and placed a note in some of the local shops, asking people to join the gardening society with a view of getting some allotments.

they had around 30 people and with the help of a local land owner we got some allotments.

I think the two ladies did quite a bit of work trying to find the land themselves, having spoken with another land owner since, I think if you can see who owns land in the area and see if they would be willing to lease it to the council

if the council have only got to get the solicitors involved rather than having to try and find land etc it will make the process quicker

Many people just dont want to lose their land, but would be willing to lease it - as if its been in the family for generations then I can see why this is a good option for them

I too live in Helston, I have sent several emails to the parish clerk to no avail I have even suggested some land at the back of my house but they say it is designated open space so no doubt it will be built on soon.

I am on the waiting list for Weeth Allotments but there are more on the list than there are allotments so not holding my breath. I looked at the allotments at Porthleven and tought it a bit of a distance to travel. So if you hear any thing count me in.

There are allotments apparantly available just off the Helston/Penzance Road - take the Porthleven turn!

Yes, yes as John would say, just got one of mr Searles patches, nice ground, good alignment, £100 a year, less than a tenner a month for 250sq m, we are building a shed from pallets and anything free so the big compost heap is our shed and the three small ones are compost.
Eat well, live well, drink moderately and be happy (hic!)
