    Update:
I've heard back from the National Trust who own private allotments in Helston, they are going to pass my details on to some of their waiting list or new enquirers. They've also given me the name of a Helston Councillor who has a keen interest in establishing allotments so I reckon we should all be getting set to write our letters soon.

We could all write in now I guess but maybe it would be good if we synchronised and knew we had at least six reaching them at about the same time

I am desperately looking for an allotment in the Helston area I move down to Cornwall in two weeks - can't wait!! The nearest one I have managed to that I could have now is in Plymouth!! I would to be happy to share or just have half a plot. If you have any pointers that would be fantastic.
I already have a name for someone to call regarding pushing the council for more allotments space and I have followed that up.

I've PMd all interested parties but I think it's also worth posting this openly so that anyone just popping in will be able to join our campaign to get allotments in Helston.

, it may take some time and who knows maybe we won't get what we want but we can but try. I'm going to rally the troups and lets get started. What we need is for at least 6 residents to write in and request the Council look at providing Allotments so can you please write to

        Mr Chris Dawson
        Town Clerk
        Helston Town Council
        The Guildhall
        Helston
        TR13 8ST

What he's told me so far is that if at least 6 requests come in then they have to look at it under the Small Holdings and Allotments Act of 1903. He's admitted the Council own no land but they would have to seriously consider either buying some of leasing it.

If you could let me know when you've written in and once I know they've had 6 requests I'll know I can chase them a bit, I have the name of a Councillor interested in this so will make contact with her once I know we have the support and numbers.

If any one wants to talk things through just PM and I'll send you my contact details

Don't know if you have had any luck in finding a plot. I am also looking for an allotment, so if you have any updates I would like to hear from you. If not have you have enough contacts yet to approach the council.

Have you written to the address above lodging your interest? If I knew there had been at least 6 letters then I would chase it up but so far I haven't heard from 6

              Update:

The Town Clerk is going to put our request for allotments to the Council at their meeting on the 20th November. If you haven't written to him yet , there's still time - the more formal requests he has the better.

thanks for that, the Town Clerk is going to recommend to the Council that they do nothing for now because they have had a request from some one out Porthleven way to change use of some land to allotments. This seems to be an ideal opportunity for them to cop out of any obligation, but the land they are talking about is way outside of Helston and would only be accessible by Helston residents by car

Yes it's a Mr H Searle that is trying to get a change of land use at Sladden Bottoms Porthleven. He thinks he will have 80 allotments. If you want his address send me private message I don't think I should put it on open forum

I have a former veg garden, about 1/4 acre, two miles from Helston. South facing, with old shed along the North boundary, and granite hedge along part of the East boundary. Very private, with access to water, electricity, storage etc. I have advertised in local shops and garages suggesting the plot could be available more or less rent free, and that I would consider possible assistance with cost of seeds etc, unlimited FYM and some tools, provided I could have enough veg for the family / house with the "tenant" for the sake of a better phrase, keeping everything else. So far not a single response, and I have had this offered for about 2 months. I appreciate that 1/4 acre is a bit more than some people want, and that it is not within walking distance of Helston. Also, I am not really interested in multiple users, and it's a lot of work. However if anyone is interested, please email sage213@hotmail.co.uk

                              porthleven Allotments

                              Hi all

Back again. We've signed up for one of the new allotments at Porthleven. The farmer is formally advertising these in the new year. He's got about 80 allotments up for rent. I've got their latest news letter if anyone wants a scanned copy which gives you all the info & contact numbers etc. Can wait until early next year and start digging...!

How much is he charging for the Porthleven allotments?
