Today I rescued two frogs. Then I hacked up some more brambles and ivy - branches as thick as your wrist.
Then I burned 'em. I burned 'em good. Then I burned 'em some more!
But there is still SO much to do ... I have barely dented the jungle. Hope to post some more pix tomorrow.

I've just taken on a second plot on a different site, but only about a mile apart. Not sure how I'll cope at the moment but seemed like too good an opportunity to miss!

Now I'm completely mad. We've had one plot for years, but when the plot next door was abandoned (2 or more years ago) We sent a letter to the council asking to take over the tenancy - this was in the pre-waiting list days. Since then we've heard nothing, then yesterday we received a letter offering us the plot, which we've accepted without really thinking it through. I'd already taken on a very small plot on another site in just for growing herbs and that doesn't include the plot my mum has just accepted in the hope that we'll give her loads of help. I've been looking at the new lottie on HW's maps too and even 2 years ago, on the most recent map I can find, it looks.....well, jungle-like, (though to be fair it doesn't seem quite that bad from the ground, perhaps we're used to it now) Either way we're in for a very busy spring.

Where are they Rob? We're in Sheffield too, are the council suddenly allocating all the abandoned ones?

Wow - 3 or 4 allotments really is hard core!!! It is fun to be on different sites as they all seem to have different atmospheres, not to mention the growing conditions they offer.

Our council in Colchester seem to have 2 main pushes on allocating abandoned plots, in spring and autumn - maybe Sheffield is the same?

We have 3 three and a half, we were not allowed a fourth full plot as our council deems it a small holding. The two established ones are a doddle and the two newer oner require a bit of work.

Personally two sites I would find a challenge.

We have plots on Hagg House and Crookes Quarry. I think with the big waiting lists the council starts to hand out plots at the turn of the year after the bills go out. I got my new one at Crookes Quarry (after 3.5 years on the waiting list) after the last tenants said they didn't want it any more. Also I think they get to end of Jan to pay the bill.

                Where are you?

I've got a quarter of my new plot dug, weeded and planted up now. Amazingly hard, slow work

Still working on my old one. A bad winter, no time, crap weather, but the weeds still keep coming. Dock and dandelion I don't mind so much they're fairly easy to get out with a good fork, but the b****y grass!!!!!!! I've got couch grass and some sort of soft stuff that makes huge clumps and is a b****r to get out.

Lots of hard work gone on there Two-sheds, but doesn't it look good now? I think I recognised the old plot there too - with the beautiful fox-gloves (and wine-bottle edged path!)

                        Broadies looking good too.
