I'll second those who make the comment about going on more than one list. I woudn't have wanted to queue jump as it would have annoyed me if somebody had done it to me. I've always know the site I would have liked and am still on the list but have little chance of getting one there for a couple of years. However, by contacting the Parish Council I've got one relatively quickly which is about the same distance away as my favoured site (although not on my way to work which was the real pull of the other). OK, it's a much smaller site with less conveniences (no loo, water etc) but we're pretty much allowed to do anything so long as we don't annoy the other plots. Chooks are allowed, so are fruit trees, sheds, greenhouses etc. And, even better, it's less than half the price of the one I wanted so basically, look around, the options which look poor to start with, sometimes have hidden advantages.
