  • Allotments in Warrington

Hiya, been looking to get an allotment in Warrington but despite the fact that there's several sites and the coucil web site now has on on-line form for application, don't seem to be able to speak to anybody who knows whats available etc. Have tried ringing a couple of times (obviously before about 3, it is the council!) but the guy I need to speak to is never in and have had no joy from e-mails either. My next step is to cycle down to my favoured site and have a chat with the locals, but based on an initial visual inspection they all look pretty well tended, not really a sign of spare plots. Anybody else from the area who has any inside knowledge, would really be appreciated as at the moment I don't seem to be able to even get on a waiting list and to think I had all these plans for next summer.................

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

There were some at Partington don't know how far you want to travel. If you search this bit of the forum there was someone else looking for lotties in Warrington early on this year, they maybe able to help you.

      Hi Alison

I live in Warrington as well and I am on the waiting list and have been for about 18 months. As far as I am aware all sites are full and there is a waiting list for them all best thing to do will be to get your name on the list ASAP then phone / email and mither. I gave up and have rented some land from a local farmer. Which site are you hoping to get on?

Hiya Elmo, the ones just off Kingsway by the Mersey would be most convenient for me as I live on the south side of town and go past them every day on my way to and from work. Where abouts are you renting land? Hadn't really thought about that route.

One of my fiends hs an allotment on the victoria park site and he said last time I spoke to him that there was some plots free there even though there is a waiting list so I would go down and ask someone, then hassle the allotment guy.

I'm renting land in woolston but I got the last bit I'm afraid the rest is crops.

Thanks Elmo, will try to get down there this weekend and investigate - gives sunny weather so folks should be out. They were probably my second choice so that could be a good option, I often cycle into town past the park so they'd be pretty handy even if from what the Guardian has been saying, they may be rather prone to vandalism!

Hi Guys, we have a lottie in Partington (we are Partington based), a bit of a trek for those living in Warrington, but not undoable! The reason I'm writing is that it looks very much like there may be a couple of plots coming vacant on the Moss View allotment site in the not too distant future, I know the coucil liason is writing to a few folks to see whether they are going to do anythin with their plots, so if you are interested, then let me know and I'll keep an ear open!

As they are Trafford MBC allotments I'm not sure what the rules would be for those not living in Trafford, but if you are interested I can find out, ok?

You should be a resident in Trafford to take one of the plots.

We are Trafford Resident, living less than 1/2 mile from the allotments in Partington, so no problem here Lesley, I was trying to make a suggestion to help out someone relatively close by, but as I said I wasnt sure of the rules but would ask if anyone was interested. Sorry if my enthusiasm overcame common sense and I gave out misleading information!

Thankyou Lesley!! <blushes> You are too kind!

I was only thinking about folks nearby because there is a plot that hasnt been used in 9 years (or os one of the other lottie tennant says), and it looks like they may be struggling to get enough folks onto the site, so was thinking that if no locals wanted them that they may well consider 'outsiders'!

Thanks for all your advice, Partington wouldn't be ideal (although I was driving through every day to work until just before last Christmas!) as I know if I don't manage something close to home I'll find it hard to motivate myself. Think I'm going to continue to mither WBC and hope to get somewhere and in the meantime continue doing as much as I can in the back garden - maybe by the time I get something I might have persuaded OH that it's a good idea! Mind you, pretty sad that there's ones going that haven't been in use for so long, must be in need of some hard weeding by now!

No problem, just trying to be of help!

Hope you manage to get sorted out, and if you need an allotment 'fix' before you get yours, you'd be welcome as visitors to ours, mind you, have to bring the gloves n be prepared for some heavy weeding!! Lol!

The one thats not been used for so long does have some good weeds, but they arent as tall as our 8 foot beauties! It does have a greenhouse on it, but also needs a lot of clearing and a lot of hard work putting paths in and digging over as it looks like the soil has been very well compacted! A good project for someone!

Believe me, all help is much appreciated! And now you tell me that not only do you know of an empty allotment, it's one with a green house already in place.............. All too much, you'll be telling me next there's some overgrown fruit bushes which can be salvaged!

Lol, not on that plot I'm afraid, but we do have some overgrown strawberries, raspberries and blackberries on our new plot, so guess who's gonna be trying to salvage them! Only thing is that the strawbs are not where we want them, so I'm gonna have to find out how and when to move them!

Mr Dobby also has a Loganberry thats just been dug out of the garden here (he brought it from our last house) because it had gone wild and didnt fruit, guess thats gonna be planted donw on the 'lottie soon too!
