  • Fingers crossed - only a few more months to wait!

I put my name down for an allotment about a month ago - really kicking myself as I thought about doing it when we first moved in in October and didn't. Was 19 on the list, and just spoke to the council and the council officer thinks I'm about 13 or 14 on the list as a few have recently come up but the list hasn't been updated so couldn't give me a precise figure.

BUT - they're about to start inspections to see whether the plots are being maintained/ worked. It sounds like they're fairly tough though - they give a 2 week notice for some work to be done, and if no work is done, they then give a 4 week notice to vacate - and usually at that point apparently most do vacate although a few do fight it.

So fingers crossed, I may well have an allotment end of April, beginning of May. This is about the time to plant out the seedlings, so it would be a manic few weeks of getting the plot prepared and then planted out - but I don't care, I just want my lottie!!!!!!

Fingers crossed...whereabouts are you so that we can suggest some quick growing crops for your area once you get the plot. If you pop it into your profile it really helps.

jThanks Zazen - I'm in Dorking, Surrey. The last frost is supposed to be early May here, so 'hopefully' it should work out.

I'm getting a whole bunch of seedlings started at the moment, with the idea that I could give the excess away to friends and to be sold at the local Horticultural Society fundraiser sale, but if I manage to get the allotment I'm going to hold onto them greedily!!!!

Hmm, better go and fix my profile!!!
