  • Allotment in Eccles Manchester

been told by my local council that the shortest waiting list has 14 people on it, think i'll be so old and toothless that i'll be having my veg out of a blender by the time i get one

just as a matter of interest, how much do people pay for an allotment? i know it varies from area to area but was just hoping to get a rough idea

There has been a couple of threads already about how much rent everyone pays. I'll see if I can find them for you

      thanks sarah

omg i just found this, some woman wrote to the council asking for allotment information.. looks like i'll never get an allotment

"There are 24 allotment sites in the Borough, 4 of which are self managed sites. The Council has access to waiting list data for all of these sites. Including these sites there is a total of 588 plots. There are 321 applicants on the waiting list which is not closed to further applications."

My advise is go visit some site and talk to the site managers. I found my local council to be useless but visiting the site and talking to the site managers I got a bit of a better idea as to how long I might have to wait.

I searched using google and from advice on here and visited a number of sites (in London most are open on Saturday/Sunday from 10 to 12pm.

When I had exhausted all online information I then just opened google maps put in my post code switched to satelite pictures and found sites close by and went down to visit.

I am on the list at 7 local sites and their list range from 450 on the list down to 13. I will still waiting for a plot next year and I will make an effort to show my face at all of them again but at least I know I am on the lists and hopefully I will have one sooner than the 5 years the closest place to me quoted.

good plan, think i'll do that this sunday.. you'd think the council would make an effort to turn more of the neglected wasteland into allotments
