Sad news in last nights local paper, the council are selling off I think at least 3 plots for housing. They reckon they will spend all the profit on the remaining sites thoughout the city. Yea right.!Blogging at..... www.thecynicalgardener.wordpress.com

I didnt think they could do that if there was a demand for plots? Something about it being a statutory rights that they have to provide plots for those who want them? I'm sure NTG will have all the rules n regs n stuff!Blessings

I am reading this book from my local library, its getting me all nostalgic for a plot, but will stick to my promise to myself to wait a year. I am also reading the The Allotment Handbook by Caroline Foley.
I wouldn't recommend to buy "Allotted Time: Twelve Months, Two Blokes, One Shed, No Idea" by Robin Shelton. Perhaps just borrow only.

Ihave been very interested in reading the thread guys as I was born and raised in Birstall Leicester, and my two brothers still live there so we visit regularly. I do hope the council doesn't do away with valuable plots as you can never regain what it lost.
I have got hold of lots of allotment books to read over the half term break, I'll report back when I've read them.May all our seeds germinate and grow

There are several abandoned allotment plots nearby, one on Aylestone road/Saffron lane junction, one Near Tescos at Hamilton and one near Thurnby Lodge. All have been uncultivated for quite a few years and to be honest are not fit for purpose now.
I would sooner see fewer sites that are full than more sites that are half empty ready to be picked off by the council whenever they are short of brass. A full site has much more clout than a half empty one in justifying its existence.

In this weeks Loughborough Echo.
Allotments available Red Hill, Birstall, Leicester.
Ring 0795 601 1444 to view.
I have seen these allotments from the main road and some are quite badly overgrown but site is easy to reach. The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.
