  • Allotments near Liskeard, Cornwall

    Hi Everyone,

I've been reading all your boards about finding allotments. My husband and I want to open up (initially) a 5 acre field near Liskeard for allotments which being private means it's available to people from Liskeard, Looe, Saltash, Torpoint and any of the areas in between. I know that each of these areas have horrendous waiting lists and as I'm a keen gardener myself, I feel it's awful that people don't have the opportunity to grow veg themselves!!

We reckon we can get about 80 plots on our field of around 200sq meters. We will probably do some smaller sites (for those who can't cope with more) and we want to charge a reasonable fee to cover costs and make a living. So we're thinking around £50-100 per plot per year. I want to desperately keep it under the £100 mark and nearer to £50, but it will be dependent on the water issue. (some of our farm has a private natural water supply and some doesn't) so it will come down to location. We're trying to negotiate planning for the carpark and to check access is ok. We're working with the fantastic and very helpful allotment association and local councillors who have been brilliant. We want this be a well run site and as it's a family farm and a persnal project (for me!) it will be a friendly and personal site.

If anyone is interested, please email us on: blackadonfarm@hotmail.co.uk and I'll give you some more details. We've set up a list to show the councils that there is a local need and demand for the allotments and if we don't get this off the ground, we will have a lovely long list that will force the council to provide you with something and I will work towards doing that no matter what!!

    Many Thanks

    Merryn
