  • Looking for a half plot in Thurrock

Well, I've been growing in containers in what is effectively a yard for a couple of years now, and I think I'm ready to step up a level and give it a shot.
I've just used the online forms for Thurrock council in Essex to ask about availability and waiting times in my area.
I even had the cheek to ask them if a full plot owner might be struggling and want to share with me

    Fingers crossed...

I used to live in Thurrock (worked at Lakeside)... I don't recall any green land in either place

      You must be joking!
We're surrounded by fields across most of the region.
I live in Chadwell St. Mary and look out onto a grassy field.
Across the road is another grassy field with football pitches.
Just around the corner from that is Orsett Heath, a huge wild flower 'field'.

I grew up in Harold Hill (Romford) which is exactly the same.
There are huge areas of council owned, and privately owned, land sitting there doing nothing. There are around 20 allotment sites listed on Thurrock councils website.
      Havering (Romford) have even more.

One of my friends has 2 plots already and has just applied for a third.

Well, I only knew Grays town centre and Thurrock Lakeside: I didn't really have time to venture further out (was working 12 hour days when the shopping centre was built)

Yeah Grays is pretty urban, however there are 6 allotments sites in Grays itself, as well as many parks and within a 1 mile radius of the centre the houses have huge gardens. My mum in law lives that way.

            Chadwell Plots

Have you tried the Kingsley Walk and Merton Place Allotments - I run a community organisation in Tilbury n Chadwell and have been working with them there and they are a smashing bunch and have just reclaimed some derelict land????

No, all I've done so far is e-mail Thurrock council as the contact details weren't on their website.
I'd be interested in both of those allotment sites.
I know someone who has 2 plots in one of them - sounds good.

I'll have to give them a visit maybe...
