  • Is there demand for allotments in Dublin, Ireland.

    Morning All,

Am hoping there may be a few Dubliners knocking around here somewhere.

I have an idea to provide allotments near dublin airport. i have some idle land at the moment and am looking for a use for it.

    So questions....

Anyone here looking for an allotment?
Is there interest in GYO in Dublin?

Any feedback would be very welcome.

    Regards

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Welcome to the Vine. There are 2 or 3 folks from your side of the water so I guess the answers is yes, there is an interest in GYO.

Welcome paulc. What side of the airport are you on?
There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.

That sounds brill. Put an ad in your local rag?

          hi guys

Am North side of airport - about 10 mins from airport

Just to clarify - this would be private land rented out by allotment - not afilliated to county council

          regards

          Paul

Are you still interested in finding out if there is a demand for private allotments in Dublin?
I might be able to give you some feedback

I don't know about north Dublin, but I was talking to DLRCC yesterday and, while last year they cleared the waiting list for lotties, by July they had 68 on the list and it's currently at 151 waiting for a plot (dole out of unused/no longer tenanted and a couple of new plots is due around early Feb but nothing like 151 will be available). Apparently there's been an explosion of interest in the past 12 months.

                Hi there,

I know there is a big need for them, their revival all over Europe is immense, but I would say your best bet is to get in contact with Fingal County Council, they are the ones who would dole them out and they would deal with you initially,.

                  Hi Paul,

I just googled allotments in North Dublin and depressingly found nothing available. Only ray of light was this thread...which is now a year old! Did you ever get around to renting out your land or have any talks with council etc?

I'm in D13 and would be interested in taking on an allotment any time after mid-June.

Look fwd to hearing back from you.

                    Allotment, Dublin

                    Hi Paul,

I Googled Allotments in Dublin, and yours was the only topic, very very depressing! So I joined this forum especially to reply to you, though I am very glad i did now, it is really fantastic. Anyway, did you get many replies? I live 5 minutes from the airport, and would be extrememly interested in renting/buying/borrowing, or by any other legal method, a small allotment sized plot for growing my own veg, so please get back to me and let me know how you got on, or if there is any focus group out there that I could get involved with to progress.

                    Thanks for posting this.

                    Pat.

Hi and where were you a year ago!???

I was living in Dublin up until last September and looked for allotments. The nearest site I could find was in Wicklow.

Where abouts is the land going to be, out of interest? I was living in Swords for a bit (then moved to Dalkey) so just wondering how close I would of been.

Hi everyone checking out this thread, in case these are no longer available (it's an older thread), there's a new one started today with a similar question for someone thinking of opening up new lotties on the outskirts of Dublin:
