Where are you on your list Chris? I've just been told I'm 31, but with the usual spring clearout I'm hoping it won't be too long. I was 109 when I registered two years ago, but I have registered just for one particular site.
I went down to the site to day to meet the Secretary and chose my plot. I had the choice of three (all half plots) and the one I chose was formally owned by an elderly gentleman called George who sadly died. He was well liked and took great care in his plot and was very knowledgable. It is in excellent condition with only a few weeds so it won't take too much work to get it ready. It also has three sheds which I take on with the plot which is fortunate and it is also near the entrance, water, manure and bark chip pile. I am so pleased. I have a month to prove myself and will then be offered a full tenancy. Photos to follow as I forgot to take my camera!!
Well done on getting one, i'm waiting...and have been for 19 months so far.
The good news is i'm now number 40, the bad news is 19 months ago i was only 47, when i got my name down there was a two year wait, now they estimate it at 2 and a half, i pointed out that if they (on average) free up 7 in a year and a half I will be waiting alot longer than three years, I also commented on the waiting list going up rather than down!?
Our allotments are really well looked after and very private, secure and only a two minute walk from my house...I can wait, as long as it takes!
The wait will be worth it cptncrackoff, I haven't had to wait as long as you but keep positive.
I have a day off work tomorrow and I am going to spend the whole day there, digging, weeding, pottering, cleaning and reparing my three sheds!!...this will be my first day too. I am so looking forward to it.
I am nervous too. The previous owner was a good gardner and really cared for his plot so I have big wellies to fill.
