When will councils wake up and use some of our grassed areas for veg patches for locals. I dont mean where children have a game of footie, god knows there are too few of those now, but the large spaces that seem only ever used when the council come to mow the lawns. This would bring communities together (old and young) and supply some good fresh food. It would only take one fairly keen gardener to start the ball rolling. And the council would only need to supply a rotavator.
    Just a thought.

Maybe as a keen gardener YOU could get the ball rolling. Drum up some local enthusiasm, call a meeting of interested folk and go to your local council. They will, of course, shake their heads and mutter "No, no,this has never been done before" but put the facts before them, get the local press on your side and maybe a local celeb chef or gardener and who knows. Go for it!!

as less money becomes available to fund grasscutting, you may in fact find your local council looking for such suggestions

It's a nice idea, and I have tried to cultivate a local patch of wasteland/verge, by planting out wallflowers etc. The council came along and strimmed them
