What a shame you have to give people allotments on the land...! The set-up sounds perfect for running a 'learn how to grow, cook and be sustainable' centre. There is one in Wales already somewhere, they do well on just over an acre. Can't think what the place is called now though.. You could combine that with hostel-type accommodation, offering food grown and produced on site. It'd be ace!

Well, I've been known to simmer for days at a time.
The WI sounds way posher than me. I bet they'd want blindfolds too!
Tis a shame though. I make my own aprons you know. Do love an apron.
I sense that this bit of the thread is travelling on a very different path to your original post.
Don't get burnt by that hot broth.

Don't worry Feral, I will not be revealing my secret locations on here, just to a few hand-picked Grapes!

Thanks Sarah for this. Although we would like allotments, it was our intention that surplus produce would be used to supply a community cafe and the weekly outdoor "farmers" market that we started last year.
I would like a catering/training facility that promoted local organic produce also.
Others see it as an arts centre and there are several respected artists and sculptors in the village who would be keen.
A bid went to the Lottery Fund to turn it onto a well-being centre, working alongside the existing sitting tenants (GP practice) and providing alternative health therapies. This was turned down twice, because the business plan was not robust enough.
If anyone on here wants to run one of these centres as a non-profit charity and can draw up a well-founded business plan speak up quickly. I'm sure accommodation could be available within the building.

Sanjo, If you'd seen some of the local WI you'd be wondering which side of the serving hatch they'd be
As for the change of direction? Not really because I've had lots of ideas and opinions and they've all gone into this great melting pot I call a brain. Eventually, I'll decide what's best for me! Meanwhile, we're waiting on the local election results to see who will be our local councillor, in case there's a change, and then there will be a meeting with the Council's Property man to see what is the latest offer.
It keeps me out of mischief
