To be honest with you Mrs Dobby I know they are okay travel wise, my only real concern is wether or not the sites are cared for and run properly or not. I really do,nt like allotment sites that look like building sites.Mainly because it makes weed and pest control that much harder

Too true, but given the choice go for one that either has lockers on site for your tools or will allow a shed or small locker on the plot - if you need to travel by public transport to get to your plot you won't want to be hauling all the tools each way!

I should have posted earlier, but I took a plot in Loughton. Its very big,was extremely overgrown with brambles not having been cultivated for years, but Its now under control and its great. There is water, I have a shed and a 12X12 polytunnel and the site has manure delivered. The other plot holders that I have come in contact with have all been friendly helpfull and welcoming. HEAVEN

Incidently the 12ft x 12ft Polytunnel came from Ebay and only cost £62 including P.P. I am really pleased with it but I feel it does need extra ground securing which hopefully we have achieved by knocking in scaffolding posts and securing them to the base

I,m hoping to grow all the standard stuff like potatoes, cabbage and onions etc, but in the polytunnel I'm hoping to grow things like Okra, Chinese gooseberries, Melons and other slightly more exotic produce that I have never been able to grow before
