Looking for a new place

Am green with envy. Do you have anything in mind, I've always fancied market gardening / fruit farming - the PYO type of place, with the necessary attachment of farm shop and cafe thing too. One day, one day...............

Good luck Andrew, I don't blame you at all. I nearly did the same a few years ago but it wasn't to be so now I just tend my plot & garden & wonder how we would have coped with Foot & mouth etc.

Where will you look. Land isn't cheap in your neck of the woods.

Don't know yet, we have to sit down and make a business plan, I would like to run a fruit and herb farm for the production of wine, my OH would like to run something that draws in tourists, either way, we will change the way we live.

Well If you want tourists I guess that means a move to Wales or somewhere like that. I don't know how good herbs would be in the Peak district or the lakes, but I guess the prices & National park restrictions won't help.

You could do worse than try somewhere on the coast of Northumbria, between Berwick and say Alnwick. In fact, thinking about it, if you could find somewhere within spitting / shouting / easy driving distance of a well known garden / NT garden, it would seriously assist in your marketing / advertising as keen gardeners would be in the area anyway. God I am so jealous

Andrewo we drove passed some fields today that are up for auction by Pugh and Company. I couldn't get the phone number but they are in Carrington opposite Manchester City FC training ground. Might not be in the middle of a tourist belt but the price might be reasonable.

Still going to grow in my garden, getting married this year, so we want to get that out of the road, sit down and get a plan together. Northumbria has been tossed on the table as a possible relocation. Won't affect my growing this year, don't care that it will take awhile to sort out any property, this next move will be the last.

When are you getting married - doesn't matter really cause it'll sneak up on you anyway. I thought not so long ago that my wedding was ages away and had loads of time to organise stuff - it's only six weeks away now

As a rabid nationalist, I still would advocate Scotland (North of Perth) as the ideal, but as I said initially, and you since mentioned in a reply, for what you and your OH require, I think somewhere along the Northumbian coast would be perfect for you - only thing is I don't know about the cost or availablity of land there. But it has beautiful countryside, lovely beaches, loadsa tourists and some good gardens to visit

I think we're going to look North Wales, Cheshire, North Yorkshire, Lancashire, Northumbria and West Yorkshire. Wide area I know but when we see it, we'll know...
