  • Next Step

Catcliffe Allotment Association had just signed off a new lease with the Parish Council. With a 'Peppercorn' rent, we're now in charge of site management. Financially, this transition year could be 'interesting' but next year we should have enough money from rents, after costs, to do something to improve the site. Next step should be to join the NSALG and take out PLI. Would be grateful for advice from folk who have already trodden this path.

Do you have trustees? Do they understand the responsibilities of the job?

PLI is important. But ensuring the site is safe and secure is an ongoing task.

      Thanks.
We don't have Trustees, just a Committee. The site is pretty safe, folk seem to be sensible and many keep a watchful eye on things. We have a security fence around three and a quarter sides - Network Rail owns the stretch where fencing is missing. They have been asked to complete it, but as the line is defunct, it's way down on their list of priorities.

A very helpful Water Board chappie showed me where the site's water meter is last night. It's about 200 yards down the road!
We're now thinking of installing our own just inside the site.
Bad news is that his gizmo indicated a leak - tests showed it's on our site so it's our responsibility. Hope it doesn't cost too much!
