    Final update!

I am now an official Plot holder!

Went up for a meeting today with the committee along with another 2 gentlemen, they had 3 plots available (2 full size and one half) So it was up to us to scrap it out between us. I would have been content with the half plot but one of the guys really wanted it, so I've ended up with a full size plot, along with an 8x12 greenhouse.

It's in great condition, the previous owner has moved to a bigger plot 5 greenhouses down so all it needs is some minor tidying.

I'm on mobile at the moment and the website is being buggy and nd not letting me post pictures, but I'll add them later today.

Congrats.. you certainly get 10/10 for perseverance.

Now don't disappear from the forum just cos you've got a plot...

      We love pictures.!

I feel your pain having to take on a full sized plot in good nick with a greenhouse. You'll never feel the joy of digging out all the carpets, fighting with brambles and clearing rubbish.

Nice looking plot and somewhere to start off all those seeds I'm sure you're now panic buying

You're a very lucky boy!! That plot looks fantastic - and with a huge GH. What a bonus.
Keep the photos coming so we can keep an eye on your progress

Congratulations on your result Craigeroo. I've been watching this thread with fingers crossed for you, so pleased it worked out in your favour. Just in time for the new season too.

Thanks for the kind words and well wishes guys, I really appreciate them!

I fully expected to go this year without any growing so it's quite a shock to finally have one!

Thought it might be quite fun to start a wee blog with my progress, sure I've not got the hardest task in fighting back weeds and beating the ground in to submission, but I thought it'd be nice for my own sake to have some way to show my progress.

I'll start a new thread in another category just in case any of you are interested.

Now planning a trip to the garden centre on my day off tomorrow. Thank goodness I get paid on Wednesday!!

It doesn't matter if you started with an empty field or part of a market garden - you've started on your journey and that's what counts.

It's good to have a record you can look back on - see what worked, what didn't, remember where yo planted things.

Speaking of which have you been able to look over it with a critical eye and see whats there. I saw in the photos a couple of leeks in one bed and possibly kale in another, raspberries and possibly some rhubarb. The green house looked like it had leek seedlings or something - is the previous tenant coming back to pick them up or are they left as a house warming present?

There looks to be quite a few pots and containers there - are they left of will he be moving them? I saw a bokashi bin there (the grey square one with a tap) - does it have a lid. These are good for making comfrey concentrate - if you have or get comfrey.

In the second photo just at the bottom - are those belfast sinks or polystyrene crates?

Did you spot all the bags of compost in front of the GH? Can't imagine the previous owner leaving those behind.
Lots of useful goodies there though.
Could the yellow leaves, opposite the GH door, be celery?

I've not had much of a chance to case a critical eye over the place, I think I was too swept up in excitement yesterday. I'm opposing back down this afternoon to measure a few things such up and take stock.

I spoke with the previous occupied yesterday, Jay. He was kind enough to tell me what he had been growing and where. Thone are indeed Leeks and kale growing in that bed, along with some rhubarb. The greenhouse is packed, however the previous tenant is in the process of moving, so I have no idea what he'll be taking with him. Im hoping he leaves some of the rhubarb at least, (I LOVE a rhubarb crumble!) He's a teacher and is off for the easter break, so I imagine he'll gut the place. I've spoken to a few plot holders though, and have been offered enough settings and plants to open a small garden centre! Haha!

Good eye! Those are sinks, one between every 2/3 plots, so access to water isn't an issue... it rains enough here in the west of Scotland anyway I've a friend that has comfrey growing in abundance, so I'll make a point of getting my hands on some.

Veggie, I'm not sure if that's celery not, I'll need to have a proper look. But unfortunately the bags of compost will be getting taken away to the new site. The allotments but a few pallets in every year and sell it at a reduced price (£4.50 a bag) so I may earmark some for myself.

I didn't see a compost bin on the plot - is there one? If not nab a few of those empty pallets as well.

Remember that once you have comfrey somewhere it's there for ever. Before getting cuttings make sure it's bocking 14 which produces sterile seeds otherwise you could be creating a problem for yourself with comfrey seedlings popping up everywhere you don't want it.

I wonder, in a struggle between comfrey and Jerusalem artichoke which one would win?

There's only one way to find out! FIGHT!!!

Oh, I've heard it's an absolute buggar to get rid of once it's in, I think I'll just nab some leaves and make a big pot of comfrey tea!

To the best of my knowledge there isn't a compost bin! I'll get right on those pallets today!
