Also sown Ailsa Craig in a tray. Once they are big enough I have a bed with ground cover which has holes in, use a small dibber and drop them in same as leeks. I use a small cooking blowlamp to make holes in the ground cover it makes a very neat hole and also melts and seals the edges which stops the fibres from coming apart and can be used again many times.

I sowed Sturion and Ailsa Craig about two weeks ago.
Pricked out the Sturion in to 40 x 1" fibre pots at the weekend, looks like I lost a few though, so I've placed a few seeds in to the vacant modules, these will catch up, i'm sure.
Today I decided to leave the Ailsa Craig where they are in the pot, and instead placed a few seeds into each of 40 modules, on the basis that any which don't take can be substituted with the ones I left in the pot.
I also have my Japanese Yellow Sensu sets down on the allotment which have been in since around September/October.

I never use wire loops I just leave them to themselves, maybe throw a bit of plant feed around them.Last edited by Can the Man; 04-03-2020, 07:10 PM.

I think perhaps that the seed has not been sown deep enough. With a little more depth, there would be more stem below ground level to support the top growth.
I stopped sowing on top of the compost and covering with fine vermiculite because of that problem. I do use supports for my show onions but 8 dozen reds pricked out today have no support whatsoever .
