  • Gorgeous weather here today after a heavy frost last night! We managed to finish double digging the last but one bed, and made a start on doing the last bed on our first plot, plus planted out some bunches of scallions that one of the other plot holders gave us!

I got that warm that I ended up taking off my fleece and gardening in one of my vest tops, just like the one in my Avatar! Must say it was lovely to feel the sun on my shoulders!
    Blessings

    • What I did today, finally managed to get to lottie and spend some quality time, erected my new tent cloche and the coldframe that my dads friend made for me, its fab, and a bargain for £25 tried to give my dad the money and he told me to keep it, he would pay. Sowed some chicory, early carrots and lettuce under the cloche, can't wait to see what happens.

      • Pricked out over 200 onion seedlings, 4 varieties - we like our onions in this house. Now all lined up on the greenhouse bench.

        • talked OH into moving the chicken coop and run today. He had to dismantle shed and rebuild in new position before moving the run as well.
Girls had a great time digging around the garden eating all the new weed shoots whilst we strugled to shift the heavy panels. Finally got everything sorted and time to get my girls back inside. Easily got 3 back in without difficulty but my RIR had other ideas. 30 minutes of futile effort before she flew over the 8 ft hedge and into no mans land. Daughter number 2 crying histerically because "strawberry" had escaped and was going to be eaten by foxes .

"strawberry" is a new eddition and very wary of all of us but is my daughters favorite and the only layer we have at the moment so is very precious to us. Another hour later an we were still tying to coax/lure/ encourage and bait her back. Enough was enough and finally resorted to throwing blanket over her and scooping her up. Spent a while handling her and feeding treats to try and get her used to us all. Sure the shock will have put her off laying for a while so looks like we are back to buying supermarket eggs again for a while at least

          • I planted 30 sutton dwarf broad beans and popped them into my mini greenhouse. Washed dozens of plant pots I found tucked away in the garden. Repotted my spinach and pak choi seedlings into bigger pots (I am trying to grow these on my kitchen windowsill)

            • Had a lovely two days on my plot. Yesterday i rotivated all spare ground.
Today me and OH erected a new suppprt for my new raspberries. Planted two plum trees. sowed some carrots in tubs in the greenhouse. Planted a tray of bluebells i had given to me by a neighbour last year and forgot about. They were sprouting so i have now put them in the wildlife corner under the dappled shade.
OH made some trellis for me to put up too.
Pottered around for most of the day down there. A great feeling.

              • I have it on good authority that while I was at work Mr and Miss E extended the platform for the composters so it will be able to take 4 and covered the paths on the top plot with wood chip. Despite the state of the bottom plot Mr E has decided we should try for a third for flowers for essences and herbs etc. I've told him it will have to take the fruit trees etc as well.

                • Had a long lie, got up at 8 (God, the joy of being self employed!!), walked Iona to school in the snow, posted planning application for polytunnels and storeroom, spent £600 ordering my seeds and made up posters for our next gardeners club meeting.

                  • Today I took No 2 cat to vet, who removed catheter and stitches. Seems he will live, and only cost me £89.
Brought him home, made docs appt for No 1 techie son, hit supermarket, took No 1 techie son to docs, then to hosp for x-rays, came home and made dinner. No 2 cat punctured vein on finger as I tried to give him tablet, took 15 mins+ first aid holding hand in air and pressing hard to stop the flow!
Ate dinner, spent some time on vine. At least Cat ok, No. 1 son not causing doc anxiety and bleeding stopped!! Dont know if anything is growing or happening on lottie. Still, tomorrow is another day (I hope)!

btw - nice avatar S Rat, is it in celebration of the new lifestyle?

                      • Today (and yesterday) I have mostly been on a learning curve.

My mother(87) passed away early on Monday morning, after a long illness.
We all got to see her on Sunday evening when the nursing home rang to tell us she was unlikely to see the night through.
A release for her and a relief for us, so feel rather unemotional about it all.

Did not realise quite how many people you have to inform and how many things need arranging, I've been running round like an insect with a blue rear.

Would like to go and do some restfully meditative digging, but it rained on Monday afternoon, froze hard Monday night, misty and b***** cold today, now freezing hard again, with snow forecast(?) for tomorrow.
Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.

                              • Sorry to hear your news Peter - take care. Hope you get to do a bit of digging some time soon.

I planted three gooseberry bushes into terracotta pots this afternoon in a snowstorm. Just had to get them done today, my last day off work. It was bloomin freezing though!

Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn't be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn't know that so it goes on flying anyway.
