  • Hi,
    I am new to the site, have 3 chickens, and a patch of garden on which I am growing fruit and veg in containers. Not sure if I am OK to post here, but here goes, will tell you what I have done today anyway!!! Sorry if this is wrong!
    1. Planted onion sets in a container (agree with previous post re: too many sets for a normal garden!!)
    2. Planted three tubs of potatoes (cant remember what type eek!)
    3. Potted on my sweet peas that arrived from QVC on Friday - lovely plants!!
    4. Ordered my Autumn raspberries, blackcurrant and raspberry bushes and also some mini tom plants.
    Any advice appreciated!!!

          • I went to see my mom and dad who have just come back from holiday in Brazil. Bought some weed killer then went and put it on the lottie. Turned the compost heap, and watered the plants in the coldframe. Found that the rhubarb crown I thought I'd killed has sprung back to life. Went to the chinese buffet for an all you can eat lunch - stuffed now.

            • Been to visit my dad for the weekend, so I've not been down the lottie.
              I have just been busy sowing seeds (veg and flowers) though, and getting my bicycle in a useable order, after 18 months of not being used, so that I can use it to nip down the lotty in the evenings, when the lighter nights come - in a vain attempt to try & keep on top of weeding etc.

              • Spent the day at my mothers house tidying her garden for her while she recovers from a hip operation. Came home and planted some Arran Pilots into containers (buckets and dog food bags). The rest of them will go in over the next 2 weeks. I couldn't wait any longer!

                • What a smashing day weather wise,

                  Today we finished off some digging and got some Lady Crystl first early spuds in the ground with Foremost to go in tommorow. Some jerusalem artichokes were planted as a windbreak and a load of Bluebells went in around a plum tree.

                  Best of all though the framework for our second home grown polytunnel has started to go in.

                    Good luck with all the wedding preparation Yo! Hope it stays clear and doesnt rain on the 'campers' for you!

                    Working again tonight, but called round at the plot on the way home, I needed a few minutes in the calm and peaceful place to just de-stress and relax, was great! The onion sets we planted in Feb are now coming thru strong, as is the garlic, and the lettuce and radish we are catch cropping in the greenhouse have started to sprout, hopefully it wont be long until we are eating some homegrown produce!

                    Mr D has been busy planting more seeds, another 5 each of some of the toms and chilli's we've only got one or two of growing yet, plus some aubergine, brussels, peppers, cauli and cabbage! Think we are going to have to pot on and stake the first sowing of toms we made, as they are in 3" pots, and about 8" tall, had to remove some suckers already from one or two of them!

                    Roll on Tuesday, a day off, forecast looks good, hoping to get down the plot and get dirty, still need to turn over plot No2, then rake over a couple of beds on plot No1, then we can do some planting! Cant wait!

                    • Over today and yesterday I have:
                      pulled a load of pond weed out of the pond and disposed of it;
                      weeded and weed-killed;
                      hard pruned 2 monster buddleia and some other shrub (lavatera??);
                      sowed broad bean seeds after my autumn sowing failed.
                      We've spent all afternoon in the garden and it's been great. Looking forward to getting out to do a few jobs after work as the evenings get lighter.

                      • Slightly forked the bed where I am going to grow the brassicas and was surprised how many stones had come up over winter, since deep digging the bed in October!

                        • Absolutely fantastic day today. Managed to spend practically all day at the lottie...

                          Did some digging.... and some more digging....

                          Planted some onion sets and decided to see what would happen if I planted some early carrots.

                            • Planted up loads of chilli, pepper, aubergine and cucumber seeds as well as a few tomatoes and put them in the heated propogator. Gave the greenhouse a good airing and tidied all the plants up in there - removal of dead leaves etc. Planted out some very healthy looking winter lettuce and all year round cauliflower plants under cloches and generally had a good tidy round the broad beans / winter peas etc. OH was out so had the place to myself and feel much better for it.

                              Sorry to hear your sad news Phil, makes me apreciate my own health that little bit more.

                              Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

                              Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                                Beautiful warm sunny day here and spent most of it own the plot securing my greenhouse and making a start on putting the glass back in. Its a good job I've always liked jigsaws!
