  • We had a lovely BBQ with friends today, and ate what we thought was a large amount of our salad we have grown, but turned out to be a fraction of what we have grown! I updated the blog too...time for an overview i thought...we've come a long way!

    • Had a day off from my allotment today. Because it was fathers day I went fishing with my youngest Son.

Caught eight good sized Mackerel between us!

Not looking forward to filleting them later on!

      • Went round to the lottie to find my allotment-mate had cropped some tatties, mown the grass, weeded where the last lot of broadies came out and planted her aubergine plants. Looks good! She weeded the romanescos and replaced the netting higher whilst I weeded the strawberry bed and her three-year-old twins handed me straw to make beds for the ripening fruit. Meanwhile her older kid (6?) weeded a space for his cucumber plant and planted it. He did a really thorough job! My moggies watched from a safe distance.

I removed the fleece from the caulis and cabbage because the plants had pushed up all the slack, and replaced it with the same fleece placed widthways instead of longways and some netting to keep the flutterbyes out. Then I decided that the romanesco bed looked so good that the onion bed needed to be brought up to scratch so I weeded that too.

In the garden, I put fleece gloves on the ends of the cherry tree branches where there is some ripening fruit as the birds waited until the last couple of pinkish cherries were just pickable and nicked them. Little feathered b*******! Tree now looks like it has been bandaged.

Oh yes, and I deadheaded the roses.

        • I worked today, but Mr D spent the day on plot2, he's handweeded about half of the whole plot, and must say it looks a darn sight better!

I got down for about 530pm, had a good look around, weeded one of the tattie beds on plot2, then we harvested a smug trug full of new tatties for tea tonight, and came home! ONly tomorrow to work and I can spend all day on the plot on Tuesday, then 3 more days and 2 weeks off to play on the plot!

          • I beat back encroaching brambles and nettles where they were trying to lay claim to bits cleared earlier in the year then buried under decapitated giant privet for a few weeks - boy do they grow fast!!!

Planted out some calabrese and broccoli red spear. Rearranged the tattie buckets and fed the raspberries so that the huge crop gets its best shot!

                  • I hoed my courgettes, pulled the last of the weeds from round the onion and garlic drills, hoed between toms and cukes in the tunnel, sowed another three drills of Paris Market carrots, sowed 6 trays of various lettuces and rid Easter Ross of another two wabbits

                    • I replanted a few flowers into bigger pots. (pansy's, marigolds, lupins, sunflowers etc)
I put my watermelon seedlings into bigger pots.
Put a few hedge cuttings in soil, so fingers crossed they will root!
And, I also actually got around to sowing my squash seeds!

                      • OK, I was going to tell you that I strimmed outside the gate and all round the dry-stone-walls, but I managed to get Trousers to do that 'by default?' whatever that means.......(Oh No, who's a Blonde?!)

So, with the "Cunning Plan, Baldrick" in action, and whilst Trousers was doing that, I planted the Romanesco Lime Green Cauli Plants, the Borlotti Beans, the Purple-Podded Mangetout, the Yellow and Green Courgette Plants, and just 'planned' a load of other stuff going on in my brain?
Before the strimming, Trousers took more photos for the blog.
When I'd had enough of the planting, I sat down, as I always do of a Sunday evening, and wrote words to his lovely pictures, and our joint efforts are there now for those of you who are regular visitors.

                        • After all the rain I went to the lottie to see how things were, I lost a shoe, stepped on lottie and my feet sank literally about 6 inches into mud. Pulled foot out - no shoe. My plot is waterlogged - boo hoo! Will have to wait until its dried out abit before I can get on it but its raining again today.

                            • As its raining I hid in the greenhouse at home and tied in the tomatoes, pinched out all of the side shoots and updated yon blog.

Tea and a black and white film now methinks.
