  • Dropped Mr D at work today, so I can have his car (which has all the tools n mess in it) rather than transfer it all into my nice clean(ish) MINI, so I've got to pick him up tonight (yay, shopping time!)

Off down the plot in a min, just waiting to see if the postie comes first, then its going to be moved the remains of the bonfire that failed to burn on Sunday, finish the double digging in that bed and perhaps rake over the new beds in the second plot! Then tomorrow when Mr D is off we can remove the rotten composters on the second plot and put in some new ones (I knew those pallets he scrounged would come in handy!) and start to turn over the beds on the second plot!

      • Was a lovely day today down the plot, sun shining, warmish temperatures and no wind, birds were singing (and looking for mates too), and it was just wonderful and peaceful! I actually found myself digging to the sound of toad calls today, 8 frogs and 4 toads all in our little pond, all calling away madly! There's also a huge blob of frogspawn appeared too, so I think I have an idea what they are all talking about, randy little gits!

Managed to have a good tidy up down on the plot, planted some bluebells that we were given last week in the flower border of No2 plot, double dug about a third of the last bed left to dig in No1 plot before my back started hurting, so gave up on the digging, went back to the second plot and raked over one of the beds, then compacted the paths and weeded the asparagus bed on plot No1, then decided I'd had enough, so came home for a nice hot bath!

Back down the plot again tomorrow, this time with Mr D, so I can get him digging and I'll do some pottering about!

          • After backfilling the tub and filling it with water, we now have a small pond Mrs D.

I will get some stone from work to make some amphibian hidey holes and will bring some pond plants from home and all being well it will mature nicely. A couple of Goldfinches have already used it to bathe in.

In addition I have made a load of fab wooden plant labels for the plots.

                • Oh my sides have split with laughing Ratty.

I work continental shifts, 4 on 4 off alternating between day and nights. I have just taken 4 days holiday giving me 12 days off. Unfortunately I am on shift tommorow night but only for 3 as we dont work saturday nights. All in all I work about 144 days a year, but they are 12 hour days.

With regard to the ramp nicos, there is a temporary one there but I will knock up a steel one at work tommorow night to use permanently.

                    • Spuds and onions have arrived now I'm getting really excited.

I (with a little help from Oh and friend, ok a lot of help) installed my fencing, all 175m of it in one day and I managed to paint the shed so it looks less like a porta-loo now. Just got to finish clearing the weeds now and I'll be away

                      • Today I've walked around the garden, got depressed at the amount of mud and weeds, thought about weeding but the mud and the weeds have put me off!

Would love an allotment that I can see would be muddy!

Put up wigwam for runners, checked all black sheeting on beds is secure, dug loads of well rotted piggy poo into some beds (Poo from Dads pigs and poor mum drove all the way from cornwall to Leicestershire with it in the car!!!!!!)

I am having laser eye surgery tommorrow and so will be a few days before I can get on and do some sowing in greenhouse (Plastic house really!!!!)
Spuds are chitting and I am itching to get going....

                          • Today I finally got back onto the Grapevine after being logged out since 09th November!!!!!!!! YIPPEE I didn't see the password reset going into my junk mail and has taken me this long to sort it out.

Yesterday I spent some time sowing tomatos, cabbages, leeks, salad onions, brussels but run out of time to sow the broad beans, chilli, and peppers so I will do this tonight after work I think.

                            • Wow, you've all been so busy. I managed to prick out my onion seedlings today, pot up the blueberry Miss EB insisted I buy on Sunday ( I think she liked the flowers), sowed some oregano and thyme seed in the propagotor. Rejoiced that my lemongrass seed was germinating and offered some once a little bigger to a friend who unsurprisingly said yes. Said friend gave me a couple of gardener's delight tom plants yesterday when I popped round with her spuds in large pot belated b'day pressie.

I've also dug over the veg patch here, manured (chicken) and covered for planting the earlies in a couple of weeks time.

It has been in the main a lovely sunny day. Miss EB has been playing with worms again! And the rabbit was going beserk in her run doing that round and round in circles thing they do.

And I finally sorted my spuds out so they can chit or not to their hearts content.

My borage seeds have germinated (all 4 I found lying around randomly).

Today I learned to post photos. It only took me 3 hrs and lots of help (thank you LJ). My broad beans are coming on well, so too is the winter lettuce and spring onions
