  • I weeded, and weeded and weeded in the Wedding Garden!

Back at the cottage, I pricked out another 20 Little Gem Cos Lettuce seedlings (to join the other 50 pricked out recently). Do you think I've got enough now?! I thought I'd edge some of my raised beds with them to make them 'pretty productive' and then give some to my clients when they are ready.

I was too cream crackered to do much else at home, but my cat was feeling SO sorry for herself, and decided it was time to show me her sore paw. She's cut the pad, but she's licking it clean every time I look at her, so she'll live.

Oh, and Trousers took a sneaky look at the iced wedding cakes, and says they're great, wot's the matter with you woman?!
    Thank you for listening,

    • And today, the heavens just 'opened' and I got incredibly wet through.... But I managed to get the smoked chicken from Monmouth that I need for our picnic on Sunday, so I'm dead 'cited now. Trousers is getting a list together for things HE wants to do on Thursday (NUTS! Girls, don't expect any help on a Thursday!......!!!!) Sorry, went off on one there...?!
Incredibly, and I'm not sure exactly how I managed to get it done, but I planted ALL of my Leeks out today. See Wellie run round the cottage with her T-shirt up over her head, shouting: "YEEAAHH!"
      Thank you for listening,

      • Well today I planted out the rest of my tomato plants in the garden. Yes, i know I am taking an awful chance but I am away on holidays at the weekend and there was not enough room in the greenhouse for them all. There are now 22 outdoor and about 25 in the greenhouse plus all my peppers.

        • Put my new shed up with the help of daughter's boy friend. We started off in bright sunshine and finished in pouring rain. It was worth getting wet for though; I might be able to put the car in the garage again

          • Hallelujah!

I went up to the Hill in the RAIN and found that the spinach needed thinning and that the thinnings are big enought to eat, and I had a furtle under the potatoes and have JUST ENOUGH big enough for tea .... in the pan as we speak....it doesn't get much better than this, peeps!

            • Been an odd week - Monday it rained so went to an art gallery opening, Tuesday was a bank holiday here so went to the local war memorial and then off to ANOTHER plant fair where I bought 10 different types of chillis/peppers before going to a chum's place and sitting in his bosses private cinema watch a DVD, Wednesday pottered round here for the day, got the peppers and rest of my toms in, organised the big raised bed a bit, water bottles planted also.

Yesterday was at chum's garden, cutting a large tree back which overhangs the last part of their potager, sorted out a raised bed for carrots and parsnips, finished 4 other small beds, laid pavers etc - and today, it's a big planting day I hope. Rained overnight so should be nice to do the planting.

My own CCA is romping away and have been eating that all week, second and third plantings also doing well, getting straw today for the berries, things really looking and feeling good.

              • Potted on a couple of courgettes, thinned out my Spinach, weeded the onion beds and checked the Wondermesh covering the brassicas. In fact something is eating the wondermesh which is a worry, got very small holes in a few places around it but will still do the trick.

Took the weevils off my broads, they really have done a nasty job on them. All are flowering now and the first in were covered in black fly so pinched the tops off. They are high enough now. Cant stop the weevils though, the whole allotment seems to have the same problem as I checked out a few others and they have the same problem. Also attacking my neighbours peas now.

Only half a row of beetroot has germinated so planted some replacements after making the soil a little easier with some sharp sand and compost.

Early carrots are showing nicely albeit a little late, still covered with fleece. Main Carrots also showing, not covered yet but soon will be.

Went to Poundland which is now the place for cheap gardening, I picked up a wooden full size dibber, 4 rolls of 5m x 1.5m weed supressant, 3 more rolls of 6m x 1m fleece and a multi hose attachment. Less than a tenner !

At home tomatos have been outside now for about 3 weeks and are growing well, still watching out for frosts. Chilli's have their first fruits on and the strawberry plant has flowered and will be bearing fruit soon. Only have 1 as I just wanted to try them.

90% of my 50 Salvia's have germinated but are growing really slowly, I guess this must be normal. The 50 pot marigolds are all germinated and are now growing well.

Waiting for 30 Runner Beans to come through, not in a rush for these still a little early.

                • Planted out 24 cauliflower and 24 cabbage. Wrestled with a piece of 1.5m x 8m lightweight fleece in a slight breeze and eventually made some kind of tenty-thing held up with canes and down with soil.

Sowed leek seeds 3 per module - a bit late but never mind!

Did a bit of weeding too.

                  • finally got to allotment in between showers. Water butts are half full now, lovely. Planted out a dozen more Rainbow Chard, a dozen mixed Sunflowers, a Dahlia, several Cornflowers. Picked leafbeet for dinner; admired peas and broad beans which are coming on nicely. Did not admire thistles and bindweed which are also coming on nicely, but rather quicker

                    • Checked wind damage - lost 1 bean plant, 1 beetroot, quite a few leaves off various plants but otherwise have been very lucky

Mr VG says the plants are very hardened off now!!

Water butts are over flowing and it is still raining!! and I have also noticed the weeds are doing well

                      • Today was HOT but not as very hot as yesterday - reached 32 yesterday. Finish the tree at chums, planted up lots of new stuff in their garden and then this afternoon one of their chums swung by to see whether I would have a look at her garden.

Dropped by on the way home, lovely place but the garden is very sterile, very French, lots of lawn, no flowers, trees as backdrop. BUT, there is a wonderful, walled but wholly empty veggie garden, raised beds, was dug over last year - and would I like to plant it up, get the plants etc etc, lovely long south facing wall for fruit trees, bushes, STUFF.

Well, be rude to say I wouldn't help wouldn't it? I feel another seed fix coming on ................

                        • You know what? What I did today, has very neatly, two hours ago, turned into what I did yesterday, and I'm really quite 'grateful' for that finally!
And therefore, today I go to the Wedding as a guest, and I am so looking forward to it, I can't tell you of the relief!
I have PM'd and E-mailed the peeps that have been quietly keeping me sane for the last few days, Trousers has been to the pub to 'shake the Groom's Hand' and wish him luck, and I have sent the Bride and Groom a very wickedly humorous E. "Just Because I Can".....

                          Now I can relax.....?

                          • I've gone against my own - not till June - advice and planted out my corn, a zuchini, a cucumber, a squash and a pumpkin plus my yin-yang and climbing french beans. Got spares just in case! (and fleece coming out me ears!)

                            • Damp Saturday.

Picked Rhubarb. Mowed overgrown lawn. Cut overgrown Privet hedge. Discovered you CAN mow over all the clippings and reduce it all for the compost heap.
Planted out some spare Tomatos, just to see what will happen.
                              Ache like a sod now.
Off to Garden Center in a bit for my Nan's Cherry Conserve, no doubt i will 'have a look around'.

                              Have a nice day.

                              • I planted the 16 calabrese plants that arrived in the post yesterday quickly followed by fleece over the raised bed.

I have potted on some of my dwarf french beans (keeping in greenhouse for the moment) and planted out my dwarf runner beans (fleece at the ready just in case).

Put copper tape round the beds containing said just planted runner beans and watched two slugs leg it up the side of the bed only to touch the tape and change their minds (it works yipee) - hastily put rest of copper tape round beds containing peas and broad beans.

Planted some kohl rabi (baby veg) and earthed up all my potatoes in pots (started this at 8 this morning)

Now I need a quick afternoon nap and then I will be ready for round two - potting up more french beans
