Disasterous day today, whilst fitting a fire place just up the road I managed to lock myself outbut left the back door open. A quick walk home and back saw me armed with a ladder and onto the garage, walked along the utilty room and got to the end only to fall straight through the roof. The last 6' for some reason had not support joists fitted. Amazingly I landed on my back and other than some cuts to my head and hand and massive bruising to my lower back and arsenal, survived intact, ish. I now have a roof to repair and a fireplace to fit by Friday night and can hardly walk.

Spent the morning with my sis ter raking up the 'hay' from the local churchyard wildflower meadow. We had been part of the group that planted it up with wildflower plugs so we volunteered to rake off the top when it had dried. I walked miles with my trusty barrow while little sister worked up a blister raking.
Came home for a sandwich then went out to do some more on my ancient shrub border eradication programme. Cut more back and son-in-law took a sackful to the tip. More to go in the morning but eventually the moment of truth and the roots will have to be dug out - not looking forward to that!
Took 40 minutes to walk (read hobble) the 10 paces from an armchair to the loo via the microwave to heat up a wheat bag. This pig didnt fly, I just crash landed.
However I did look longingly at yet more seeds in catalogues, nnnnooooooooooo

Commiserations PW, hope you will be up and running again soon.
Today i attacked my garden and decided to start laying paths between my 4 veg beds. By the time i was finished i had gone a long way to getting it the way i wanted and it looks so much more tidy than the row method.
Roll on spring.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
Today, mostly, we are shopping..... because Wellie is in the beautiful home of Clare and Keith Channing in Auvergne, France.
This is 'Grape Related', so counts as What I Did Today in the Vegging Out section. The Scareys and Wellington Boot bought very reasonably priced Vin Blanc et Vin Rouge, in very respectable quantities for private consumption...!
Also, I very generously donated the Shallot Griselle sets I spent a fortune on from Marshalls Seeds to The Scarey's new vegetable beds, which Clare and I are going to 'dib-dib-dib/ging-gang-goolie' into the soil tomorrow, which was a bit like taking coals to Newcastle really, but hey, when we're moved over here finally, I can help dig them up and steal half of them back, which is what friends are for......?!
(unless any of you greedy Grapes fancy booking in for a holiday sometime around harvest-time here for at least a fortnight, to help dig them up instead!) www.....!
Did some more on soon-to-be-ex shrub border. Aching from the meadow raking yesterday - but not as badly as PW - get well soon lad! Got my seed saving book. Good read!
I planted out some more Rusty over-wintering lettuce that have come on really well in the cold greenhouse.
Also planted out a dozen Super Aquedulce bored beans that have been greenhoused
I made another cat's cradle of black string and boombams to deter the pigeons, who are ignoring my CD scarers
Picked Chard and Chinese Greens for dinner

Bought next year's moon gardening book; and started planning the rotation of the beds.
Harvested courgettes, final [and only seed grown] toms, got about 15 in the end - only about 5 of any decent size.
Harvested loads of tomatillos and made salsa to have with nachos [yum].
One bed cleared for onion sets and garlic to be planted on Sunday.
Well today i dug all of my 252 m2 plot and put a good covering of muck over it,dug and mucked the top half of my other plot that i have my chooks on. ie plot 1 and plot 2. then the chap who as plot 20 asks me while i was in the mood will i dig and muck over his plot for £30, i said yes no probs, then the chap at plot 5 said will you dig and muck my plot for me so i did I did cheat a little bit cos i used my minni digger i use for work, It saved my back but my wrists ar killing me.
I got a good sweat on to cos the heater is red hot in the cab.
Only just got home but im not knackerd, it took me 3 full week ends last year so all in all a good idea from my wife.
Planted out garlic and onions sets, plus a few left over seeds just to clear down the nearly empty packets.
Took 6 inches off the raised beds in the couryard to make it easier to move about in between.
Harvested some carrots in courtyard garden; did nothing in the proper garden.
Planned out planting for next year.
