Marked out the bed for the new raised section. Finished painting the wood for the sides of same. Uncovered the fleece and weeded my small raised bed. I have little gems in there that I put in in September. They are looking very healthy but not sure whether they will be edible as they have been in there a long time. Sorted out some of the greenhouse. Put garlic into modules. Dug up some carrots for going into my veggie curry. Been a lovely sunny day.Last edited by Sanjo; 27-01-2009, 05:22 PM.

Was supposed to be working in one of my gardens yesterday and today but spent both days stripping out a house that was flooded - the same one I was at a couple of weeks ago - lath & plaster isn't very nice when it's wet - bloody awful when it's started to dry out. Anyway, managed to blag three glass doors so will soon have three posh cold frames running down the south facing side of my shed.
Also, spread bags of compost / leaf mould mix over my seventeen rhubarb crowns which are just, and only just, beginning to bud.Rat

Today I sneaked around after dark and on every allotment fence I stapled a laminated copy of a complaint we had from the Council about smoke at the allotments.
Tomorrrow we will probably get another complaint about smoke as each allotment member rips the laminated notice off their fence and burns it.
Or even worse they gang up and burn my shed down!My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

I dug over a patch that's been under cardboard all winter ... thick ivy & bramble roots, very tough to dig out. The ground is too wet really, but I needed to be outside doing something.
Cleaned the patch up, and stuck in 5 blackcurrant bushes that I grew from cuttings ... very proud of them. Transplanted loads of limnanthes around them as ground cover to keep the weeds at bay.
----------
Finally discovered the source of a damp patch on my shed floor (it's been puzzling me for weeks as there's no hole in the roof) ... on pulling up the rug - oh my God! The whole front side of the (new) shed floor is soggy & beginning to rot already. Decided the problem is that the door is too short, so I need to put a skirt on it to cover the gap where the rain gets in.Last edited by Two_Sheds; 28-01-2009, 03:22 PM.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

Finshed digging over the new flower bed that was created at the end of last summer, spread with the compost heap contents & left. Now its all nicely dug over i will hopefully be able to get it all planted up if the weather stays ok. Once thats done the garden may actually start to look like a garden!

Had a play with the mini greenhouse and:
-Checked the squash and onions and chucked out a couple of manky ones.
- Cleared the old chilli plants and washed the pots.
- Put in the pots of cauli/winter lettuce/onion seedlings for some fresh air
- Discovered and dusted off a pot of hyacinths from last year which I had forgotten about and have got sturdy 2" shoots on themLast edited by Hazel at the Hill; 28-01-2009, 12:42 PM.

Drizzle all day, but I cracked on and dug another strip of border & stuck in roses, sweet William & hellebores. Looks like mud & weeds at the moment, but should be fab in May

Sneaked down to the Hill at lunchtime and picked some kale for tea (variety Sutherland, thankyou Birdiewife).
Took the bottom layer of the can-o-worms tower with me in the car in order to empty it into the 'cooking' compost bin.
Picked the stray worms out of the back of the car.
Came home and unbunged the tap on the can-o-worms so I can get the liquid feed out, then reassembled the tower with the empty layer on top.

I looked at the sack of compost my husband brought indoors to warm ready for sowing my sweet peas and tomatoes. I'm full of cold so thats as far as it got.
Instead spent a happy afternoon reading up on how best I can make use of the new cloche mum has treated me to
and plowing my way through the squash threads to try and work out if Turks Turban would be easy to grow for a newbie.Last edited by cheerfulness; 29-01-2009, 08:53 PM.

Box delivery day tomorrow so made up the boxes this afternoon. This week's boxes contain potatoes, carrots, onions, savoy cabbage, red kale, parsnips, then some or all of the following (depending on box size and customer preference); celeriac, beetroot, leeks, squash, chard, swede.Rat
