  • So far today I have:

Dug a bit more of the new bed area.
    Turned 2 compost bins.
Moved 2 types of salad leaves from cold frame to green house as they are up and looking good.
Moved red fuego cabbage from landing window - cold - to cold frame.
Painted the modifications to the chicken run.
Pulled the manky old leaves from the PSB.

      • Today was free as I was laid off (again) on Friday. A trip to the post office saw seeds go to Essex, Canada, Michigan (USA), France and Lancashire.

As a bonus and an earner of vast numbers of brownie points, I built Kazzi a cupboard in her craft room complete with latching doors and 3 shelves. A spell in the greenhouse saw some brassicas sown along with some early carrots in pots.

        • Today I pruned all my autumn raspberries to the ground (a bit early ... the book says late winter or early spring) but it was a fine afternoon & it felt good to be outside.

              • A second visit to the workshop got the Chrismas tree, 2 boxes of decorations and 4 extra dining room chairs put back up on the mezzanine. A basket full of kindling made from offcuts of wood left over from the cupboard and the staircase spindles made a bit more space.

Finally I got my seed boxes down onto the workbench ready for a bit of a sort through later tonight.

                  • Smugtrug time!!! Went to lottie collected 8 eggs, 3 large leeks,2 swedes,a large bunch of carrots,a boiling of brussel sprouts,a cabbage, half a carrier bag of stored onions including red de florence and ham onions.

Washed them in the bath I have at the lottie as her indoors likes her veg to look like they came from Tesco's.........my hands were numb with cold by the time I came away!

Called in at Instores on the way home where I purchased white onion sets and two types of shallot sets (99p a pack) to go with my 2 packs of onion sets I already had.

                    • I also dug up my blackcurrant plants, because the ground is now hopelessly infested with couch grass coming under the fence from next door's overgrown allotment.
I will clean the roots, and plant them somewhere else

                      • I planted about 90 chitted peas(Kelvedon Wonder) in the home made polytunnel plastic/wood & caravan window greenhouse - hope to be eating peas in May. Also carried on repairing the "picture frame" cold frames which got trashed in the recent gales. Then it started to rain, again!

                          • Have 6 window boxes and 8 pots of strawberries which I left out over the winter.
Brought them into the cold greenhouse today and cut off all the old rotted leaves.
The alpine strawberry plants have a few little fruits and some blossom on.
Two daffs just opening and my first crocus.
Was like a spring day today and enjoyed being out and about again.

                              • I've had a lovely day One of the lovely guys from the lottie came down and helped me (or rather I helped him) to finally get my greenhouse up . The base it's on isn't very level so that needs to be sorted out before I can even think about putting the glass in it, but hey! it's been in the garden since August waiting to be finished! It was a big help having firstimer1 here a few weeks ago when we made a start on putting the sides together before we got confused (no instructions!)
