  • Got up to bright sunshine, but an hour later when we were ready to go to the plot it was raining, so did some planting, then when it cleared up a bit went to the plot to finish the last few paths, which we managed to do (between rain and hail showers!) bar about 1 18' section (friends turned up so we came home for a brew).

Managed to get some piccies of the plot, so hoping to post them to the blog tonight!
    Blessings

      • Today was to be a brassica sowing day but i only managed to sow four types of brussel sprouts and one batch of primo cabbage! Chopped some wood....it started to snow briefly....lit the woodburner.......... then the sun came out!
Went down the dene nearby and managed to get a huge branch for the chooks run. Took out the mismatch of 2X2 timbers and replaced them with the huge branch. Only time will tell whether the chooks appreciate the effort!
Planted two lots of shallots..one red type and one white type!

I heard on the allotment grapevine that one of the other plotholders is undercutting the price I'm charging for my eggs..........or it could have just been a ploy to beat the price down.
Finally manged to get myself a car to replace another that is going to be too expensive to repair! Just got to find some way of going to pick it up now!

        • Didn't get as much done today as I hoped - after we finished clearing the club last night / this morning, we had a lock in that sort of went on and on, and as a result I didn't get in til 6 this morning - woke up at 10 with a sore head - was at tunnel by 11 though !
Laid sleepers for central aisle in tunnel then went to collect my new (second hand) Husqy Rotavator - brought it back to the tunnel and spent an hour repairing it and servicing it. Rotavated one half of the tunnel - the hardest section as it had a "path" that has been in use daily for about two years and was rock solid, but at least the other half won't be so bad. Spread manure on the rotavated half then rotavated it in.
Went up to walled garden, watered seedlings. Removed severely storm damaged Eucalyptus tree - about 20ft tall but had been planted too close to one of the walls aso the roots were pretty shallow and the winds battered it to death this winter.

          • The forth raised bed went in today, so no more digging til I dig out bed no 5. But that can wait a bit.

Got the rest of my onions into the flower beds as they wouldn't all fit in the raised bed. By the time anyone notices I'll be harvesting them, lol. Also managed to plant some flower bulbs in between the showers.
Have potted on more toms, the ones my son sowed a couple of weeks ago.
Also sowed seeds of asparagus, celeriac, andalpine strawbs.
Need to pot on the peppers but ran out of little pots.

Had to hoover 3 times as was so messy with the compost indoors - oops

            • 2 1/2 hours up the allotment. bliss. dug over another couple of plots, widened two to fit all the plants that are germinating at home. covered one with fleece which in the wind was quite amusing for someone, but not me!
sowed some potatoes in pop up bags in greenhouse
              had a mug of coffee
picked out the cat poo from beds. joy
felt the sun on my face and then the hailstones
above the clouds the sun is shining and the sky is blue. if you look hard enough you can just about see it!

              • Went up to the lottie with O/H to finish making the raised beds with the recently acquired joists. Had to leave him to it and start on the second plot as one of the chaps on the site whose allotments are pristine came up and started digging and rotovating the plot for me. He said he has nothing to do on his plot at the moment! I didn't know that could ever happen
So I made a start on clearing the rhubarb bed which is infested with couch grass and tweaked out a huge pile of roots - probably still loads left though, didn't want to disturb the rhubarb too much.

The next plot holder who is from Belarus came over and invited me to the 'Womans Day' celebrations. She had a barbeque, salads and lots of vodka!! Felt a tad guilty as I could see both men toiling on the plot so after finishing my food and downing the vodka, I went back to help them. The rain and wind arrived soon after so went home feeling happy, but not because I had done a good days work

                • Yesterday i sowed the following.
                  Pea Rondo
                  Cabbage Filderkraut
                  Cabbage Red Cap
                  Cabbage Minicole
                  Cabbage savoy tarvoy
                  Pak Choi White F1
                  Broccoli Summer Purple
                  Cauliflower Igloo
Felt good to start sowing seeds again

Today, I popped into the lottie to get some leeks for the pot, and was rewarded with the first pickings of my Purple Sprouting Broccoli (10 small spears). What a wonderful site.

                  • Started out in lovely sunshine yesterday, tidied up the garden and chopped a small tree down to make space for my new woodshed I am going to build this year.

Gave my Mum a chilli seedling for a birthday present.

Checked anxiously that my PSB are still getting there, but not quite ready to pick yet!

                    • Today potted on aubergines and toms and potted celeriac.
                      Have sown:
                      Carrot Yellowstone
                      Cucumber Cucino
                      Tumbling Tom Yellow
                      and French Marigold Red Brocade.
Having made a mess inside, I decided to go outside and planted chamomile in gaps I had in the front garden.

                      • Went out mid-morning to prune the buddleia - came back in with job half done - it was blimmin' freezing out there! Very high winds again. Sowed some true potato seeds in a half sized seed tray. They are in a big poly bag on the windowsill now.

                          • Had an hour out on the lottie this afternoon doing a bit of digging over the last few raised beds. Checked the broad beans which were transplanted a few days ago and already they are showing signs of growing well. the peas also seem to have transplanted ok. Put a sheet of weed fabric over the carrot bed, its had black plastic over it for the last month or so. Will try to get the carrots sown next week-end weather permitting.

                            • I did not get a chance to get on here last night! So here goes, yesterday morning I spent a little time on here chatting with some of the grapes. Then as it was such a lovely day , well most of it, I spent a few hours clearing some of the border near the greenhouse. For years that border has had a plant growing, I cant remember the name but it grows tall about 6-8ft with lots of shoots and small yellow flowers by about end of April. The roots gow down a long way as well

Then I washed my greenhouse, It had not been used for years and years so it took me a good few hours to do inside and out! So*s law down came the rain just as I finnished the greenhouse! All in all I had a busy day in the garden! Feels good to get it done though!
