- turned out another Dalek that we inherited with the house (the owner had filled it solely with grass clippings and the stench was unbelievable). I am mixing the contents with scrunched up newspaper and aerating it a bit
- planted my Victoria Plum in the front garden
- erected another plastic greenhouse (that's 4 now)
- potted on my chillies
- soaked peas for direct sowing tomorrowAll gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

Cleared some more weeds and grass at my plot, we have a 20 x 12 foot workable area now.
Sowed Cauliflower "All Year Round" in seed tray, sat in conservatory now, checked my "Jersey Royals" that are in containers in there too, just breaking the surface, soon be time to put on some more compost.

Today in about two hours time I am going to go and pick, weigh, bag and label some spinach, baby chard and perpetual spinach. Then I'm gonna pick some PSB, some kale, and if I have time, some baby leeks, before loading the above + tatties, carrots, onions, calabrese, celeriac, garlic and cabbages into the van then off to the first Farmers Market of the year
Why am I on here at twenty past three in the morning -been working at the club and got home about 2a.m -if I go to bed I'll probably miss my alarm call so better if I stay up and head off to my field for first light. Will grab a couple of hours kip tonight before I have to go back to work at the club again.Rat

Yesterday - turned and turned and turned the soil, pulling up bramble roots as I went. Then the fork snapped in half. So had to carry on using spade.
Today I will be digging and digging and digging. Good weather and a Saturday - so might have a beer whilst doing it.
Also going to pop a garlic clove in a pot. A bit late I know, but it might be OK. If it doesn't go into cloves I can always roast it with roast lamb.
3 year old helper (my daughter Arabella) removes stones for me. This would be useful but she NEVER stops talking. My ears are bleeding.

Ahh I have a DD like that, she often is on our trampoline when I am gardening and I get a constant stream of questions and talking
Rat, you seem to do the work of 3 men, I don't know how you do it.
Yesterday I did some digging and watched the PSB intently to see if it would grow enough to be picked while I was there, it didn't."Orinoco was a fat lazy Womble"

- painted a fence panel - the most tedious job in the word (8 to go).
- erected a trellis & planted a Honeysuckle
- planted out sweet peas in a new border (loo rolls were much better than root trainers, btw: bigger plants, stronger roots), trained up string held down with tent pegs
- sowed some Baby Blue Eyes
- potted on various cuttingsLast edited by Two_Sheds; 21-03-2009, 06:07 PM.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

Today I was either brilliant or stupid , I did my greenhouse . I planted my cucumbers , gardeners delight and moneymaker tomatos, alpine , temptation and bog standard garden don't know the name of strawberries .They have been in the garden for years and I thought I would put some in the greenhouse to try and get an early crop .I have planted runner bean , Hestia and scarlet emperor seeds and dwarf french bean . Tomorrow I will plant sugar snap peas . I have thought of the weather , they say night temp off 3 deg down here next week so I have lined the lower part of the GH with newspaper all round and put fleece on at night and off in the day . Either it will all grow lovely or I will lose the lot . Hey ho .
It has two chances , up or down.

I put up the wigwams for the beans. There is fermented bokashi under the soil, which should be rotted down by the time they go in. I'm not planting yet, but I like to see where they will go, and that helps me plan the rest of the planting.
I also tidied up the garden (doesn't sound much, but boy did it need it ). There's space for garden chairs now, so bet we get rain soon.I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

Planted kitchen roll germinated parsnip seed. Planted out yellowstone carrots sown in rootrainers. Sowed 1 row of radish globe mixed and 1 row turnip purple top milan. Planted out more sweet peas and put slug wool round plants. Went next door (which is currently empty) and dug up weeds which were growing through boundary. Came in and noted what had germinated.AKA Angie

About time something good happened to me. My next door neighbour, who gave up veg growing 2 years ago, has a compost heap the size of a squashed modern mini and after I asked him nicely, has said I can take as much as I like.
I've taken a couple of barrow loads and I will end up taking about 15 in all I think, that should set me up nicely for this year!!
Planted out spring onions sowed at the end of September in long planters, it's worked very well indeed, but next year I will sow at the same time, but in modules a la Piglet Willie.
This year I actually hope to get spring onions at spring BBQ's. Hurrah!
I also planted out 24 leeks that I sowed in October, that will do us for the summer and I will plant out another load of leeks sown at the same time, later in the year to provide us with leeks in the winter."Orinoco was a fat lazy Womble"

Sowed one row of broadies direct and covered them.
Potted on all my tomatoes again yesterday they are now in 5 inch pots or 4 inch pots.
Potted on some cabbage that I haven't quite finished the bed for.
Moved stuff about, from greenhouse to cold frame and mini-greenhouse.. and stood some things out to harden them off.
Gave the smaller bit of decking a second coat of oil after cleaning it with special stuff on Weds, then giving it the forst coat of oil yesterday. Not managed to tackle the big bit yet. Did some painting in my son's wooden playhouse! It was too dark in there before.
Picked some salad leaves sown early january and had them in a cheese and green tomato relish sarnie for lunch - yum. The rocket sown at the same time is also ready
