  • Sorted out veg boxes for tomorrows deliveries, pinched out and tied in tomatoes, staked cayenne pepper plants, tied in cukes, watered everything in the tunnel, transplanted some strawberry plants into hanging baskets, took some fresh air runners and put them in pots of water to root, sowed two fishboxes with rocket.

      • I'm just back from my allotment 21.30,and the light is beginning to go. I didnt go until 5.30 and I have thinned out my swedes, carrots, beetroot, watered them all. Painted back, front and one end of the shed. tried to untangle a lovely clematis I want to pot up, from the taped together mess the grower made of it. Was going to go down to the beach to collect some seaweed but I'm too tired so its a shower and bed with a gardening magazine.

        • In the last week i have .... cut the grass, planted out French Beans, Courgette, Sunburst Squash, Sweetcorn and Chinese kale on the veg patch. Planted out in the flower beds three mini Dahlias, a fancy grass, lilly of the valley and loads of bush lobelia to fill gaps in new flower bed. Weeded, watered, weeded, watered and weeded some more. Have had visiters all week but they went yesterday so hope to get lots done this weekend in the veg patch & greenhouse as well as getting all the edging done and tidying up after the landscapers who have put us in a new fence (garden finally dog proof!) and cut back our massive hedge.

          • A lovely friend at work has given me 2 tomato plants and a patty pan??????
So my job for tonight will be to plant them but first I have to go and buy some more compost and some tubs/growbags to grow them in.
I also have to find out what a patty pan is so I am now off to search your forums.
Oops and I'm at work so I shouldn't really be looking but I'm all excited at getting some new stuff to grow!
Its nice to be important but its more important to be nice

            • Went to allotment late today as it was raining. Luckily the sun shone a bit when I was their and I managed to plant a few Golden Bear obions which were a bit pot bound.
I have some ceramic planters, a few of which I planted up with African Marigolds and mixed Snapdragons.
Rain stopped play eventually and I retired to the greenhouse to affix a few canes to my tom plants.
Although it's rather cold and wet the bit rain we've had has filled the water butts and done the world of good for the garden. No doubt the weeds will shoot away as well now!

              • I watered, thinking I'd be wasting my time as rain was forcast - it didn't arrive, though it's clouded over this evening. Transplanted winter cabbage from their nursery bed to give them more space, weeded. Planted borage.

                  • today i visited wikos to get the free tomatoe feed with the G.Y.O. voucher. And unlike my last visit with a voucher the staff were right on the ball with no problems.
also bought a polyethene sheet for a temporary polly tunnel.
then on to allotment plot, planted left over lettuce seedlings which i was growing for salad leaves, but i thought i would see if i can get some full size lettuces. planted cucumber or courgette, not sure which is which or even if i have both sorts or not. ill find out if they grow to maturity . planted some extra mange tout seeds and pleased to see mange tout is in flower. finally left side of poly tunnell open for tonights predicted rain.
at home i have sowed some land cress in seed tray for more salad variety.
a good put down line to use !

                    • Felt really sad cause my spuds have really bad blight, literally sprung up in a night. Chopped off infected foliage as didn't want it to spread to neighbouring plots, popped into bags and took off sight to burn at home.
I suppose you have to take the rough with the smooth, on a plus i had a strawberry off my plot the size of a golf ball and really sweet.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. ~Author Unknown

                      • Today we weeded the shallot bed and carried on digging over the area we will put the sweetcorn in. We put a trellis up so the courgettes have something to climb up and harvested the remainder of the leeks, some more radishes (including a mutant) and my first ever harvest of beetroot.

                        • Yesterday i pulled up the last of my radish (french breakfast), not going to bother sowing any more as not too keen on them, thinned my golden ball turnips, planted out pumpkin "wee be little" in a space in the onion bed, planted out cucumber "marketmore" and pumpkin "orbit" in large pots to trail over the veg patch bark paths as not much room left in the veg beds. Potted on two "son of mars" pumpkins that have yet to be found homes for - they may have to go in once the spuds are out, potted on 2 "suprise" plants that could be either courgettes, cucumber or squash, also potted on 3 "red robin" tomatoes & 3 "Cayenne" chillies, watered greenhouse & foliar fed everything in there too.

                            • Decided to finish what i started yesterday but rain stopped play again...i've potted on 4 beefsteak tomatoes and managed to get 2 gardener's delight potted on to there final buckets,(which i got from morrisons, they hadn't got any so i asked and i asked for 2 lots and they gave me 2 lots and when i got home there was 29 buckets...not bad to say i should have only got 16).

Just need to pot on some more tomatoes, cucumbers and gherkins now.

Planted up 4 troughs with dalhilas and fushsia and pinks.

Weeded between the pavers on the patio and swept up...

Just wish we had the lovely sunshine again, so i can get more done. Has i have been ill, and not been able to do much, for a few weeks and just when i feel well enough. It started to rain and not stopped so i keep going out in between showers.

                              • I've still got quite a few young plants in small pots and cells so I've been desperately looking for odd bits of garden to plant them out. No luck, unless i dig up a bit more of the lawn so it looks like they'll be going in containers if i can scrape up sufficient compost. I just can't bear to throw a healthy plant away...especially when i might get a meal out of it in a few months. Currently the veg. patch is augmented with 42 assorted containers from nine inch pots to an old wheelbarrow with holes in the bottom. I don't suppose a few more will make much difference!
