      • Planted out the 600 Tundra Cabbage, 450 PSB and 100 or so beetroot. Dug over the area they were taking up in the polytunnel, and planted 64 Dwarf French Beans.
Today, it rained not a lot but it's a start.

          • Planted 5 cucurbits of various sorts, puchased for 20p each from local nursery who were going to chuck em out, Weeded, weeded, weeded and weeded! Why do the weeds grow so much faster than the crops after a drop of rain?

                  • Yesterday we celebrated!!!

IT RAINED and then it rain some more. We had the most amazing thunder storm directly overhead which knocked out the power for a couple of hours but we couldn't care less . IT RAINED!

10 days we've been waiting and watering. For 3 days our local weatherman has been promising us rain but it never arrived .

Now, the water level in our old well has risen by 2 brick depths. The pond level now looks a lot healthier and the Tadpoles are much happier. The veg beds were, finally, sopping wet.

Today I need to seed more carrots, radish and beetroots, do some weeding, pick some salad and pick more beans.

                    Regards

I always seem to get rejuvenated when i get to the allotment and finish up spending loads of time pottering on......3 hours later, I'm back home!

                      • I took my long leggy tomato palnts out of my mini greenhouse and put them out side my back door and tied them up to some huge stakes. They were too big for my greenhouse and only have 2 trusses on each and I wondered if being in the greenhouse wasn't doing them any good.
I also checked over my poor battered garden. My potatoes are flattened but hopefully will be ok.
The hail storms and torrential rain in Derby today have been incredible.
Its nice to be important but its more important to be nice

                        • This is for yesterday really, as I spent all day in the garden, then fell asleep watching telly at 10, earliest I've been to bed in years! I didn't do that much [I kept having rests and reading but it felt like I had by the end of the night]
I pulled up the peas and picked off what was remaining before putting them on the compost heap.
Attempted to dig over where they'd been but the ground is like concrete, so I chucked a bag of own compost on top and attempted to dig it in a bit. It rained in the afternoon, and softened it up a bit, so I dug in what i could, but will have to wait for the beans to fiish before I do anything else with that bed.
De-leafed and pinched out tomato sideshoots. Tied some more of them in.
Potted on some PSB that I bought on impulse.
Squashed all the butterfly eggs and caterpillars I found on the cabbages. Netted them with the supercheap netting from Ikea.
Re-jigged the greenhouse again, took one tomato out and put it against the wall, de-tangled some of the cucumber shoots from the chillis, found a chilli as long as my hand, wow!
Put two pots of apple mint into a belfast sink. Changed the compost in the ceramic urinal and sowed some parsley in it.
Planted out some chard bright lights, hopefully it will perk up a bit.
Picked broad beans and some dwarf french beans, I kept half the beans, gave half to next door neighbour. I picked his recurrants last week and made apple and redcurrant tarts, so i can do no wrong as far as he's concerned...[I hope]. Picked four courgettes, found a crookneck squash growing, so yayy!!! they're alive. Also noticed tromboncino has little fruits on it.
Potted remaining three cucumbers in a big pot with sticks, so hopefully they'll grow sort of contained
