    • A really beautiful spring day here. Finished digging the onion bed and got in all my onion sets (growing Corrado and Hercules this year - Corrado did really well for me last year). 15 rows of onions altogether .

Yesterday I did yet more digging, helped by OH, and DD planted a row of carrots - our prize from the Snowman competition!

Lots of my seeds in the airing cupboard are chitting - tomorrow's job is to get them into pots....
Life is brief and very fragile, do that which makes you happy.

      • Nice day (day off from work - suns out). Cleared up all the "permanent" big pots of fuchsias, mint, etc. Tipped more used compost onto the borders. Bit of weeding. Sat in front of computer - BIG MISTAKE - need to get moving again.

          You've gone rusty?
Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

No, just lazy. Anyway I did get off my bum and back into the garden. Re-fixed the polycarb panels in the greenhouse that had blown out (not completely, just enough to be a nuisance). Cleaned said greenhouse. Did some more tidying, and watered a couple of pots and trays that had somehow dried out. Chillies and tomatoes doing nicely on the kitchen windowsill.

                • Started re-turfing the bare bit of the garden that used to have the shed above it before I moved it.

                  Good God it's bloody boring!!!!!!!!

I wanna be up the lottie but it's gotta be done sometime.

Oh and I noticed that the celeriac I sowed on the 11th is germinating already! The instructions from the packet advised placing them on the top of the soil and leaving them uncovered. So I did this and chucked them in the prop and have been misting the surface of the soil on a daily basis, as I read on here that they lurve water, and it seems to have done the trick as the seeds are sprouting. Is six days quick as I thought this stuff took an age to germinate.

Oh and I have noticed that the Ideal carrots that I sowed about 2 or so weeks ago appear to be coming through. Have them in a container in the back garden with one of those water bottle cloches over them and they are coming up. To be honest with all the cold weather we've been having I thought I had no chance of them sprouting!

So all in all a rather surprising and rewarding day (Oh and my current employers told me that they want to extend my contract for a further six months so that was good! - I'm a short term IT contractor by trade).

                  • This afternoon i have lightly forked over what will be the roots bed & covered it in fleece ready for seed sowing in a week or two. After that i weeded & chopped in the flower bed in front of the greenhouse - filled 2 trugs full, then i spread a bag of manure over it & forked it over. After that i edged the bed - it actually looks like someone owns it now! Was also pleased to see that many of the plants in there are starting to spring into life, also lots of bulbs making an appearence.

                          • Potted on my tomatoes and calabrese seedlings, and went out into the adjacent field, picking up Sheep Poo for making into a free liquid feed for this years' crops.

Yesterday, having filled my noo Salad Bar with the contents of last years' Pumpkin Tub compost mix (well rotted FYM and JI No.3. I also tipped on the compost from my Tomato, Pepper & Aubergine 'Buckets) and, I then today sowed short rows of: Scallions, CCA, Rocket, Corn Salad, Little Gem, Radish and Pea Shoots.
