Dismantled a greenhouse I've been given, wet through, 6 hours, three broken panes and a eensy weensy glass cut later and it is all still in the back of the car waiting for me to unload it down the allotment, methinks that aint going to happen until tomorrow now.It was dark. And cold. And very, very empty.
And in the middle of all of the dark, cold, emptiness lay something darker, and colder, but very, very full.

I just had a very enjoyable, but wet, afternoon weeding onion beds. Turns out more survived than I thought, but I still put in the 100 Red Barons I bought last week. I also harvested the last of the spuds I'd put in late summer and planted 3 tubs worth of Arran Pilot.
Last week I sowed:
Tumbling Toms
Gardeners Delight
Sunflowers
Rocket
Cucumber (yeah, I know, a bit early...)
Winter Squash
Hurst Green Peas
Climbing French Bean
Now I just need to find the missing Rooster. Sodding cat has played with it again, methinks!

Spent a pleasant afternoon, potting on the early toms for the second time, they will be going outside on warm days soon.
Pricked out chillis, only ended up with 3 out of 12, very disappointing.
Sowed loads of different sunflowers into pots, and into the g/h.

Today I mostly edged the beds at the allotment (well hubby did it with a bit of help from me).
Didn't start off too well - 10 mins after arriving 7rd old needed a poo (sorry if TMI), 4 yr old badly cut her knee, and our first attempt at edging a bed resulted in split wood - then the battery drill ran out of battery, and all this was going on in constant drizzle.
Anyway, we perfected our technique, the sun popped out for a few moments, the kids found something interesting to do, then we ran out of wood
Needless to say we're back up there tomorrow with supplies purchased this afternoon. It was a productive day and the plot is looking good - will hopefully post some piccies after tomorrow.

Picked up a strimmer I won on ebay, picked up lots of gardening magazines I got on Freecycle, bought some potato growing bags, some hanging baskets and some more compost and claimed my free strawberries from the Daily Mail/Homebase. Claimed two lots actually...

Faffed about putting Rootrainers together, then more faffing filling them with lumpy compost (Grrr - rant thread) and sowed some more Beans.
Started sowing Beans during the week, but decided to buy more Rootrainers to do more. They arrived yesterday, as did the 'Seed-swap' parcel.
Also sowed 7 different kind of Toms, 3 types of Cauli and some Kale during the week too.
Yay, I've finally started. May get some Spuds in the ground tomorrow too! DLast edited by Glutton4...; 20-03-2010, 11:06 PM.All the best - Glutton 4 Punishment

I sowed:
4 pieces of ginger I've been soaking for about 6 weeks - they seem to have sprouted a little, though I don't have any clear idea how they should look.
6 pumpkin seeds - Jack o' Lantern
12 pepper seeds - California Wonder
Tomato seeds - Gardener's Delight
Good news is that the chilli seeds I sowed about 6 o 8 weeks ago have finally started to show. They were saved from last year's chillies.
All these are being kept in the kitchen which isn't really very warm at this time of year, here's hoping they'll all come on.My hopes are not always realized but I always hope (Ovid)

Put all my tomato, chilli and sweet pepper seedlings into the greenhouse for a day in the sun. Watered the early potatoes and dwarf peas - both in said gh. Now sitting in the kitchen fascinatedly watching the coming and going of a rat at the far end of the garden - an activity suddenly made more interesting by the arrival of next door's cat...come visit a garden

Lifted some blanket weed from the pond, watered and admired the seedlings in the greenhouse. Had a quick chat with the strawberry seedlings on the spare room windowsill, pointed out that they needed to get a move on or they would be all alone when everything else was in the greenhouse
Pulled three sticks of rhubarb 'cos they pushed up the plastic flower bucket forcer I was using and picked one head of broccoli.
Plan to sow my chillis this afternoon, if I get time.

Potted-up some dahlias; planted a new rose in shrub border; sowed some peas (Hurst Green Shaft) in large pot, checked everything else germinating/growing in an ever-increasing number of pots; took some photos... and went for a beer!Really great gardens seem to teeter on the edge of anarchy yet have a balance and poise that seem inevitable.
