  • I can finally join this thread after reading it for a while

    We went down to the allotment this evening at 6:30 and didn't finish til about 8:30! Time flew by!

    We went over the ground we have already cleared, got rid of some more weeds, outlined some plots, 2m X 1m, with a 30in path. Planted in some onion plugs.

    Me and the mischief are heading down there tomorrow to sow some seeds and do some more work

    Tara
    The loud wind never reached the ship,
    Yet now the ship moved on !
    Beneath the lightning and the Moon
    The dead men gave a groan.

    They groaned, they stirred, they all uprose,
    Nor spake, nor moved their eyes ;
    It had been strange, even in a dream,
    To have seen those dead men rise.

    • Hi all! Never posted on here before, but read this forum pretty much every day while at work.. so today i opened the greenhouse, took out my borlotti beans, peas and sweetcorn plants for the day. Came to work. When I get home tonight I shall put the beans, peas and sweetcorn back in the greenhouse, water if needed, and then shut the door again...

      Roll on the weekend !

      • Turned out the shed to put in a new shelf unit at the back, got rid of some rubbish (where does it come from?) then put everything back in. Can now stand in shed if it rains.
        Planted up 3 large growbags in new greenhouse with Amish Paste, Maskotka, Roma, Black Cherry and Gardeners Delight tomatoes and an unlabeled one as well. Put the Cucumber, aubergine and pepper plants in there too while I decide wether they get the ring culture treatment too.
        Planted out the runnerbeans, Scarlet Emperor? and the climbing bean, Trail of Tears. Also planted out the sugar snap peas, Sugar Bon? Put some straw under my strawberries and weeded the SFG while I was there and harvested a radish! There won't be any for a salad 'cos I keep munching them Good thing there is a succession coming on

        • Today, I have: planted out my 3 biggest runner beans; planted out my last pot grown mangetout seedling into a space, at the base of my 2nd wigwam where a direct sown seed didn't take; and planted out my redcurrant bush.

          Now going to go water everything.

          • This evening I finished chopping up the remains of my old shed. I now have a mountain of timber 3 feet high.
            Now all I've got to do is decide where i'm putting it until the burning season begins again in November!

                Wondered what was eating the leaves of my kiwi and found a caterpillar munching its way through a leaf so promptly disposed of it!

                • Got two hours at my own place this evening - watered everything in the tunnel, sowed 54 cell trays each of PSB, Red Cabbage, Kohl Rabi, Sprouts and Tuscan Kale, and planted another 16 Jalapeno Peppers.
                  Checked the Cabbages and Calabrese planted out a fortnight ago -all gone pigeons, jackdaws, pheasants, rabbits etc etc etc ,
                  The ground is like dust too -we have had no proper wet stuff for ages.

                  • Went mad on Monday and planted out all my squashes and courgettes. :
                    So far they don't appear to be cowering and it seems that the temperature is slowly creeping up, so fingers crossed!

                    Serbian pole beans, Hestias and Waverex peas have been out for over a week and look okay, making growth and so on.

                        • Potted on Tomato "Roma" to it's final pot in GH.
                          Started the process of turning my old 6;x4' blow away GH into a giant cloche for my 6'x3' beds so I can hopefully get the pumpkin, courgette and BNS into it this weekend.

                          • This morning went to lottie . Relieved the goosgog bushes of more caterpillers. Had a furtle round the spuds, another couple of weeks methinks.
                            S'arternoon did some flowery stuff in the garden and in the GH finished putting toms in their final homes.

                            • Today:

                              Planted out 3 Courgettes; 4 Cobnut Squash; a replacement Winter Squash; and a replacement Sweetcorn;

                              Gap-sown parsnip seeds into my first 2 rows;

                              Whilst weeding and thinning the Leek and Spring Onion raised bed, I realised I've lost virtually all my spring onions to frost but the Leeks are doing superbly well - my OH better love them as much as he says he does because we're going to have loads of the blighters because I also have 60 growing in tubs which will soon be ready for planting out!!!! So tomorrow, first job is resowing the spring onion rows ;

                              Planted 2 nasturtiums beside the pond which is to one side of the veg beds (my OH is paranoid about slugs and snails taking refuge under the Nasties and feasting on my veg). Anyway, there is a gravel path between the pond and veg beds so hopeflully the Nasties will attract all the aphids etc (of which there appears to be billions already ) to the pond area and the gravel will act as a barrier to the slugs etc;

                              Weeded and then watered all the beds, as there is still no sign of rain .

                              • Today i planted out my Dwarf Cosmos (from seed) and Leucanthemum (from plugs) into some of the gaps in the bed below the decking, planted out 6 Dwarf French Beans & 5 Kelvedon Wonder Peas into the veg beds, and a Courgette into a big gap in the flower bed in front of the fence. After that i moved the pots of spuds from the greenhouse to outside and reshuffled everything in the GH so i can fit my 4 tomato planters in - well, i fit three in for now but didn't have time to plant the tomatoes in them! Gave everything a good water and moved lots of plants outside for hardening off overnight!
