  • Sewer Rat..... High Five, put it there my man.... top banana result!
and I know one isn't s'posed to chat on this thread, so I won't, but I do know where you're coming from with the criss-cross mowing. Man after my own heart, and do the same myself.X
Anyhow.....THREE TWO ONE... YOU'RE BACK IN THE ROOM.....

So, Today, Wellie unfortunately had to plant a number of shrubs and roses in this heat, but retired gracefully at One O'Clock and shaped a bit of box hedging in the Funny Farm front garden.
    And thank you for listening.

      • Yesterdays as it all a bit of a rush, didn't do much...
Potted on Facing Heaven Chillis, took some up tunnel, planted out more toms in garden, 3 each of the upright one, amish paste. Sorted out plants due to be picked up, 25 tomatoes, 4 tomatillos and 21 celeriac. Still have about 30 to give away, will do that next week.
Planted out dwarf purple french in tunnel, watered there and potted on gingermint, pineapple mint. Planted out one yellow courgette looking a bit lost, and an uchiki kuri into two tyres in garden. PLanted out 6 yellow runners in garden, noticed that the green ones are finallycoming through, yayyy.

        • Yesterday was the first day I had free since the recent fine weather started so I resolved to clean up my decking area for picnics/bbqs. Just started cleaning out the water feature when a very old (in both senses of the phrase) friend turned up 'for a chat'. So we sat in a rather untidy, picnic area, drinking a bottle of chilled white, surrounded by deceased planters and hanging baskets with me shouting myself hoarse at him because he is somewhat 'hard of hearing' (d. as a p.) and won't wear a hearing aid because he 'can hear perfectly well', (as long as you scream). Guess who was up at 5.30 this morning emptying out and refilling dead planters etc.?
Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

          • At the Castle garden today - put up pea netting for peas and sugarsnaps which are all about 9" high (been waiting on the netting for weeks)
Put up framework for French Beans and planted them out.
Hand weeded the carrots, onions, beetroot and parsnips.
Planted out a variety of different lettuces.
Planted out dwarf Green beans in courtyard garden.
Planted out long row of Rainbow Chard.
            Watered everything thoroughly.
Back to myown place and watered the tunnel.
Picked 15kg of the reddest Rhubarb in prep for my cordial making marathon.
Popped on here for half an hour then I'm gonna strim various areas of the garden, plant out my French and Runner Beans, paint a ceiling and then go to work at 10 tonight.

Cancel the strimming and bean planting - been raining heavily since I posted this originally - so just painted the ceiling.

            • Potted on some Red Alert and Oregon Spring tomatoes. Potted on a couple of gherkins - and salad leaves and planted some more in containers. I intend to stay in what Alys Fowler calls "a happy salad place"! Watered everything in the garden and g'house and then it started to rain!

                • Was at the allotment early today at about 8.30am. Made a 'chute' out of guttering so that I could top up one of my chook feeders without entering the run.
Did quite a bit of weeding, especially on path areas where the woodchips had worn thin. Managed to scrape up a full barrowload of woodchips from the heap at allotment entrance and patched up paths where needed.
Spent the rest of my time laying bricks and generally tidying up the frontal area of my plot. Planted up some dwarf Safari beans in a huge pot I used to have an apple tree in. Pruned my apples and pears which were getting a bit unruly.
Left for a family BBQ at 3.00pm which was an hours drive away. I had a really good time renewing old aquiantances with relatives I hadn't seen for a while.
All in all, a very pleasant day!

                  • This was yesterday ..... Planted out some more onion sets (31p for a bag full from Wilkinsons ... would have been very rude of me not to really) sowed some more PSB on my front boarder, made a makeshift netting fence (to keep my dog from trampling on all my hard work) to go around my veg patch. Pushed a snail that was half in half out of the jar of beer and watched it sizzle LOL i felt terrible ..... but my cabbages will live to see my stove (hopefully!) Weeded and watered everything

Rain today so I think I'm going to take a well earned day orf

                      • cut the last of the spring greens so now have space for 2 courgettes in the bed, chucked in some compost to give the soil a bit of oomph before I plant them.

Will plant out tomatoes later as ground is soft after massive storm last night,

Planted a couple more courgettes out.

Earthed up my one (so far, I'm not panicking, honest) asparagus spear.

                          • Thunderstorm last night - good downpour, so making the most of my time as it's back to school tomorrow, I went to the plot this morning. Weeding - lots of it as after the rain, if I don't I will be knee-deep in docks and dandelions by next weekend. Planted out two Oregon Spring tomatoes into my tomato corral - a sort of shelter that I have loosely attached plastic to so that it forms a sort of ramshackle tent over my tomatoes and gherkins. They are outdoor varieties but being covered won't be bad for them! The Heath Robinson-ness of the construction made one of my allotment neighbours laugh .. a lot!! Cut back lots of weeds around the entry to the plot, made some more nettle tea.

Then I netted over the strawberries, two reddish ones and lots to come if I can keep the birds off. Home for lunch. And it's raining again. Hurrah!

                            • Went out to my place for a couple of hours after painting / decorating again this morning.
Finished planting the tunnel - itis now home to 42 tomatoes, 39 cauliflowers, 5 Hispi cabbage that survived the mouse invasion earlier in the year, 4 rows beetroot, 20 ore so parsnips, 3 cucumbers, 132 chilli peppers, 5 rows carrots, 3 rows broad beans, 32 Dahlia Flowered Zinnia, 32 Chinese Aster and 60 or so Spring Onion clumps (a la PW method). There are two 8' x 4' beds in it and these are home to onions and shallots (the latter being pretty close to harvesting I think.
It is also home to lots and lots of baby cabbages, cauliflower, broccoli, PSB, kohl rabi, sprouts, red cabbage and chard.
Home now - rhubarb stewing in readiness for cordial, kitchen tidied awaiting the return of the 3 women in my life then out for a meal tonight.

                              • FInally managed to give away my tomato seedlings, ended up giving about 20 to the last person to turn up, and she gave me some fresh eggs from her chickens as a thank you, how nice? . Now only 40 to go but I have a plan for those ....
Planted out some more borage seedlings, and the nine sweetcorn that showed their faces, I sowed about 16 but only 9 came up and seeing as it's only me that eats it, that's enough for me [still got some in the freezer from last year]
Made more space in the greenhouse, sowed some more yellow dwarf beans, the last lot rotted yet again? What is going on?
